I'll take "fugly" coins like that all day long, every day.
From a technical perspective, no it's not all that great, but if you like toners, it's a gem.
My guess is that it was due to the particular auction, or it has hidden major problems we can't see.
You throw that coin on eBay with those pictures, and I bet the coin goes for at least $150, if not closer to $250. >>
yeah, it may have blatant cleaning hairlines underneath the toning, but i agree with your sentiment of ebay. that coin would certainly bring 250 and up on the 'bay, technical merits aside. the money is on the toning, at least on that particular coin.
