Please...someone tell me what the big deal is with the ANA election?
How does this have any bearing on collecting, buying, selling or any aspect of what we do?
This election seems as fierce as a senatorial race...and I just don't see what the big deal is at all.

You are singing my song.
Lalalala life goes on...
Didn't wanna get me no trade
Never want to be like papa

My guess is that there are some people here (perhaps including myself) who have spent way, way, way more time on the ANA gubernatorial election ($35 membership fee) than on their state gubernatorial elections, where they (we) pay out a heck of a lot more than $35 per annum.

Though this election has little if any bearing with the collecting, buying, or selling aspect of the hobby, it does have an effect on the direction of the hobby as well as the direction of the ANA, which is the hobby leader to most numismatists in this grand republic. You have read all the stories in the numismatic press these last couple of years regarding the shenanigans and boondoggles of the current regime in power. There are those in the ANA membership who are sick and tired of the "politics as usual" mentality that is making the organization look like a complete laughing stock. And there are those within the ANA (like myself) who are running for the board so that the problems plaguing the organization can be fixed to the satisfaction of the majority of the members. This election is fierce, as you point out. It is a battle between the elements of the current regime and the reformers (like myself). The only hope here is that a new pro-reform board (all 7 seats) will get elected so that the President and the VP are put in check.
"Let's clean this corrupt regime up and kick the crooks out!"
Like I give a damn whether or not Kagin knew he sold Manley's garage gold?
Like Thomas Noe is anything other than FBI business?
Like you need a board to decide what city to hold a coin show in?
It seems that EVERY issue discussed in Coin World is stuff that none of us cares about. It's all the red tape crap for a self-serving organization. What has the ANA ever done for me?
It does seem apropo that the campaign is taking place in a publication where the readers biggest causes are slow mint delivery, slabbed or unslabbed, picking coins from change and debating how every new coin is atrocious!
Birds of a feather?
<< <i>Are we talking about the Congress who just voted to increase their $170,000 dollar a year job another $4,500, even though they have a lower popularity rating than the prez? Oh, never mind >>
I'm not a big fan of politicians in general (and I am not defending them), but their pay is definitely not commensurate with the responsibilities that they have. I don't know how anyone can live in the DC area on $170K a year, personally.

OT!! OT!!
The pay is nothing to scoff at but the pension........
I would like advance notice when WalMart starts selling Trade Dollars, though.

I'd guess that most of the day to day living expenses that many of us pay out of pocket are probably picked by supporters/lobbyists or charged to their expense allowance as part of running the office.
