Has the price of copper made pennies worth more than face value?

I don't know how many pennies it takes to make a pound but pennies are 95% copper, and I heard copper's going for over $28 a pound.

    Not since 1982.

I believe pre-1982 cents are worth more than 2 cents in metal value. Even Zincolns made since 1982 are worth more than one cent.
  • About 155 cent/lb for the 95% Cu cents. A bit more than 2c/coin at current Cu prices (about 3.50/lb). Zinc cents are about 180cents/pound, and a pound of zinc is going for about $1.60.

This is just a bit dated but still close, the nickels and copper cents are passing face and zinc cents are close.
