What's a "Tricard"?

It appears to be from 1991. I've seen a picture of a Will Clark "Tricard" and it appears to be a 1991 Upper Deck card.

What are these things? Are they rare?

All it looks like to me is a 1991 Donruss card in special packaging. I know nothing about them.

If you look closely at (the crappy picture of) the Nolan Ryan card, it looks a bit funky...almost like it's in 3-D or something. Don't you see three of Nolan's pitching arm? It almost looks like someone took three of the cards, cut out the image on two of them, then layered those on top of the third. Hence the "TriCard."

Anyone ever seen one in person?

I found a few more on Ebay. They're 3-D cards.

    Check this out...

    past auction

The set isn't listed in Beckett's Alphabetical checklist book, so I suspect that these are after-market type cards.

Here are a few more images. They don't seem too expensive, as these are all around $5. Frankly, I think they look kinda cool.

These were after-market created-for-collectors thingies. Guy just cut up two extra cards and glued the action pictures to the front of a third card with some spacers in between to giver it depth. Dad's Kid was sued by MLB or the Players' union or somebody over this and they won. The court said he was free to alter the cards and re-sell them in this way without violating any licensing or copyright.

If these are really numbered to 50,000, that means someone used 150,000 of each card.

    Just think about that.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
