Does anyone here have first-hand knowledge of what it's like to work at Heritage?

Everyone knows that Heritage is the center of the numismatic universe. Everything there is BIG, and they are very influential in the numismatic world. In my professional life, I have worked at BIG firms and companies, so I can honestly say that there are many advantages to working at the biggest, 10,000 pound gorilla in any particular industry. The resources are there, the people are generally a cut above the rest, and there is a certain cache to having an industry leader on your resume.

Of course, not everything about working at a large firm is roses. With a large organization, there is a lot of bureaucracy. At my place of work, we joke that at every level of the organization, the persons at that level think the level above them are useless bureaucrats, and the levels below them are a bunch of idiots.

I have a generally favorable view of Heritage. Does anyone with first-hand knowledge know what it's like to work there?

They offered me a job but said the entry level position included performing foot massages in the Heritage Legacy courtesy room at coin shows. I decided that it was not for me. image

I've worked in very large scientific and pharmaceutical firms, which would be instantly recognized by name to many members, but cannot agree that the typical employee in these firms is any better, more skilled or efficient than others who do not work for name brand employers.

Find out for yourself by working for them for a year or so. Contact Paul Minshull and he'll be happy to offer you a position then you'll know for sure what it's like to be a part of Heritage.

I'll do that but I don't think you'll need one as they have positions at every level since, in your words, they are a large company.

Don't laugh-- the person who controls the information (i.e., the mailroom guy), also controls the power.
