Rundown of set of Ikes?

hi
I want to start and finish a complete set of Ikes. Can someone provide a full list of Prooofs and circulation ssued Ikes needed for a complete set. I cant decide whether to do slabbed or raw. Can some provide prices of a full PCGS or NGC full set?

THANKS

From the set registry, there are 21 coins in the basic set:
    1971
    1971-D
    1971-S SILVER (Blue Pack)
    1972
    1972-D
    1972-S SILVER (Blue Pack)
    1973
    1973-D
    1973-S SILVER (Blue Pack)
    1974
    1974-D
    1974-S SILVER (Blue Pack)
    1976 TYPE 1
    1976 TYPE 2
    1976-D TYPE 1
    1976-D TYPE 2
    1976-S SILVER
    1977
    1977-D
    1978
    1978-D

Add the proofs and you come up with 32 coins:

    1971-S SILVER (Brown Box)
    1972-S SILVER (Brown Box)
    1973-S CLAD
    1973-S SILVER (Brown Box)
    1974-S CLAD
    1974-S SILVER (Brown Box)
    1976-S CLAD TYPE 1
    1976-S CLAD TYPE 2
    1976-S SILVER (BiCentennial Set)
    1977-S CLAD
    1978-S CLAD

Prices range anywhere from 40 to 60% of the PCGS Price Guide
    NGC Coins bring less.

The tough ones are the 1971, 1973, 1973-D, 1974, and 1976 T1. The 71, 74, and 76T1 are difficult to find in 64 and higher grades but they do exist.

For a beginner, I would suggest starting a raw set until you feel comfortable with the coin as slabbed coins can cost you plenty!

For one thing you should get a copy of the Red Book. Then you would have a list of those in many grades and prices although the prices are really off. Then there is an Ike expert on this forum and has his own web site called jmscoins. Try that for more info. As to buying some, I suggest you visit coin shows if possible. There you could see them prior to buying any.

  • Thanks
Do you guys think that an IKe set is only complete with the type 1's and types 2's?
  • Dont forget the 1972 type 2, possibly the most exspensive in the set. And you're right, I would include the type 3 also.

You might also include the "high speed" '76-S 40% silver unc.

These were run off at the last minute in '76 to fullfill congressional
intent on mintages. Quality was very poor and they were badly
handled so sales were extremely weak and many millions were
    destroyed in the early '80's.

The different type's for the 1972 IKE'S are considered varieties. Its your choice whether or not to include them but if you do, then you might as well include a pegleg or two and perhaps some talon heads. Follow all that up with a nice FEP and your there!

Depending on the grade and look the set is not too challenging so I would add the varieties.
