BU Half-Dollar Rolls

While at the bank one day, I picked up several rollls of gem uncirculated half-dollars, most all from Philadelphia, ranging from around 1990-1995 or so. This was definitely a collection, as all of the wrappers were marked with their contents, and all looked like they had been pulled straight out of the best pieces that bags or rolls of each date had to offer. They average about MS-65 at the minimum, and most still look fresh from the mint. Are these worth anything over 50 cents?

Yes, check on ebay to see what they might sell for.

Nice find. Yea, check ebay. If some are really, really nice, try sending them in for grading.

If they average 65 at the minimum, they may be worth hanging on to. The 1990-1993 dates have bid levels significantly above face, while the 1994-1995 are much closer to face.

  • Probably not, and that's why they are now at the bank. Someone pulled them out of the bags to make the rolls, sat on them for 10 to 15 years and then tried to sell them and found out there was very little premium for them at the wholesale level and that they have lost money holding them rather than having that money turning and working for them. So they just deposited the coins at the bank in disgust.
