is this 1971 card re-colored?

I just got this on ebay and I was looking it over to send it in. If it's recolored it will look fine in my binder. I don't have a black lite but here's a scan - it doesn't make sense that they would color some of it but I don't want to send it in and have it come back not holdered. Advice?

It wasn't vavXXXerly's, I bought from this seller before with good results.

It arrived yesterday in a 1" thick lucite holder, in a zippered bag. Scanned it this morning

I'm just afraid it's too nice for $20 and there has to be something wrong.

Show a really good close up scan of the facsimile sig (same distance as with the scan of the bottom edge). We'll see if it's a fake.

Also, hold the card up and look at the very edge of the card. See any black bleeding through the cardboard?

Hold the card up to the light at an angle, does the odd color shimmer? I agree, it looks odd, but ink would usually bleed through, unless they used a ball-point or a pencel to do the recoloring, in which case, it might reflect light differently than the normal surface of the card would.

Hope it isnt colored, but it sure is a very nice looking card.

When I clicked on the link, and then clicked around a little bit, I saw that you were the winner of one of my auctions recently for a 1972 Stargell PSA 8. I can see now that it found a good home. I was really hoping for a PSA 9 since it was so sharp and centered. I'm glad to see that it went to a lifelong Pirate fan. image

Nick, I can't afford a 9 so I'm glad it was an 8. Thanks for a nice card image

Here's a couple scans, not sure what to look for.

Could you also post a scan of the back?

My "Find of '84" included about 75 1971 Topps cards in Poor to downright ugly condition. I took a trusty black Crayola to them and proceeded to make them worth even less than they already were.

I still have some of them, complete with varying levels of crayon dust on the backs. image

I think the 71s you crayon'ed up used to be mine!

I had a 71 "collection" and they were just horrible when I was done with them. I had to get rid of my cards when mom and dad decided my room would be neater and cleaner without them (bad strategy, didn't work) but I can honestly say I wouldn't have lost much if mom threw them out!

I did lose out on 4 cases of 1972 sunoco cards, the promotion ended, gas station owner was a friend of my dad and gave them to me. I opened them to get all the packers and eventually gave the rest (almost 4 cases!) to the guy that gave me $75 for my cards.

The card looks trimmed or something on the bottom edge, it's in the scan. It's straight on the edges. It's in the very bottom corner of my scanner and it curves cards if the lid isn't down.

From the scans, I'd say that the card is authentic, but as mentioned previously, maybe a crayon did the touch up.

The card would probably get a 7 if it wasn't messed with. Send it in. If it comes back as re-colored, see if you can scrape off the areas where the color is.

Then again, is that kosher? Altering an altered card to remove the alteration?
