Check out the email I just got from this buyer...

He hit the BIN on a card I was selling. Then I get this email from him.

"We were "VERY LUCKY" and "VERY HAPPY" to win your 2002 Bowman David Wright Rookie card#381 (PSA 8) for $18.49 shipping included per your auction instructions. We are going IMMEDIATELY to the (PayPal) site to authorize your "INSTANT PAYMENT"! Thank you, [NAME/ADDRESS/PHONE# REMOVED] (Could you PLEASE "throw-in" some cheaper RYAN HOWARD and DAVID WRIGHT cards for my (2) little grandchildren?) Thank you, Ron, Sr."

Now I wouldn't mind throwing in some cheaper stuff if I had it, but I just don't have anything. I just thought this was an odd email, glad he's so excited though! image

I was going to see if I at least had some Steelers or Phillies since he lives in PA but considering his user name and his address consists of "XXX CARD SHOP" I'm guessing he could get his own singles and just wants cheap stuff to sell to the kiddies that come in to his store.

Am I just being cynical in that assessment or should I toss some stuff in. It's not going to be Howard and Wright, but maybe some home team stuff if I can find anything...

What do you guys think?

send what he bought, include a nice note that you couldn't help him out. Some people assume WAY too much!

This guy has been doing this for years. It used to be Arod & Jeter he asked for I believe. Just send him what he bought and move on.

I remember posting a message a couple of years ago about the same thing. Must be the same guy still at it with the same tired line. I won't forget his name, and while I will not divulge it entirely on here is it Ron M.......r? Frankly, I sent him a few cards as he seems like the kind of guy who might zing a seller with a neg for not doing so. Crackpot.

I agree 100%. Even though the email sounds nice, its actually pretty rude.

Send him what he won, nothing more.

If you've got it send him some extras. If he needs the stuff that bad, what can it hurt.

    LOL. That's him.

I take it you've dealt with him before as well? I figure he's a dealer. If not for the "Card Shop" in his name, I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

Get a couple of the cheapest Ryan Howards and David Wrights you can find...then beat the heck out of them. Card flip them, let a baby chew on em, let the dog drag his butt on them....send him those and tell him that you found a couple of cards the kids may enjoy.

Hey, I had that guy before and I sent him a bunch of nothing. I also withheld my feedback for him, just because I did not trust him not to neg me. I wonder how many times someone has actually sent him something.
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
Guess I better double check what he paid me for shipping.

Based on his negatives and neutrals (A LOT of them) he does that a lot.

    Montourcardshop8zyp

Guess I should have just checked his feedback. You guys have to read some of these, This guy is a douche.

Looks like most of the negs he left were for buyers, not sellers.

Block him as I just did.

I've seen other threads about the same type buyers that want something for free. I believe in goodwill in the card hobby, but not for someone who asks for it.

this GUY is a real nut JOB. Reading his HAPHAZARD and randam ALL CAPS typing really makes my HEAD hurt. He sure seems to make a lot of $.50 ERRORS when he is paying SHIPPING, but at least HE says he is SORRY. I wonder WHEN his GRANDCHILDREN will have enough CARDS.

Sheesh, trying to read that crap of his is almost as hard as trying to duplicate his typing.

Man, I can't believe the balls some people .
How dare anyone ask for something for free ?
The guy asks like #1 He knows you forever .
#2. He knows you have these particular cards .
    Personally I wouldn't even sell it to em . . . I'd take the hit ,
Stupid stuff like that makes me sick to my stomach , using their kids as pawns .

    Just my 2.5 cents . . . sorry I had to vent that .

I saw at quite a few in there with this guy taking liberties with shipping, and asking for extra cards. You can only say I accidentally shorted your shipping by $.50 so many times before it is obviously not an accident.

This guy is really weird, looks like you really picked a winner on this one Josh, good luck

    I couldn't resist:

"I'm just emailing to ask what the hell is wrong with you. There's been a whole thread started on the PSA forums about your ridiculous business model. Asking for free cards for your "grandkids" when you supposedly own a card shop? Nickel-and-diming people on shipping 50 cents at a time? Is this really what your life has been reduced to?

Just so you know there's like 20 of us that have blocked you from our auctions."

I pray to god he responds.

I for one am looking forward to his response. He may actually join the boards for this thread...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

I can't believe someone would take the time to nickel and dime someone for 50 cents a shot. I suppose he's probably gotten away with it more times than he's been busted so it's worked out for him. He does have 4000+ feedback. He didn't screw me out of 50 cents (yes, I did check). He hit the BIN and paid almost immediately so I can't really fault the guy here, actually I wish more buyers were the same way in that regard. Asking for free cards was a bit out of line, but like I said before, I probably would have tried to scrounge up something had his name not been "Card Shop" or if I hadn't seen a dozen negs/neutrals for the same thing. Asking for Howard and Wright is a bit of a stretch too... Might as well ask if I have Pujols and Jeter stuff laying around too.

I'll send him his card (with dc of course) and move on. You guys are funny though, I didn't expect such an uproar, seems several of you have dealt with him in the past as well. This is too funny. image

Edit to ask this question: What happens if a buyer you blocked tries to bid? Do they receive a message that they have been blocked? Does anyone know?

I believe so. I would imagine it's similar to the message you get when you try to bid on a pre-approved or buyer requirements auction where you don't fit the criteria.

We should do an experiment. I can block someone and you can try and bid and see what it says. I have 160 or so auctions running right now.

...how's that for some stealthy-spam? image
