I just realized...

That this card was oversized. I sent in a group of 50 vending fresh 1959 football cards. I just got them today and was looking at the Karras Rookie PSA 7 and saw that it had room to move. None of the others did. Its got like an extra cm(not really but a lot of extra card). I didnt know PSA would still grade the card if it was to big. Is this common???

There are lots of dealers who would make that card a 9. I bet it brings PSA 8 money if you put it on ebay and say it's oversized.

Your joking right? What do they use to cut it? A laser cutter????

Sadly, no. I am not joking. Not sure what the tools of the trade are, but laser cutter sounds abiout right.

Well, if cards you've pulled out of packs are coming back as trimmed, then obviously they can't tell whether a card has been trimmed or not. They just guess based on the size of the card. If the card measures up, they have no reason to look for signs of trimming. With older cards, it's easier to tell because a trimmed edge will be lighter in color than the others, but if the card is the right size I'm not sure they even look.

That is true. I still wouldnt feel right using a laser cutter. They cost from 50,000+. My friend has access to one but I never thought people used them for this. He is an architect. That is why I only keep cards I have graded myself. They are the only ones i feel comfortable with.

Aragh! Looks like you lucked out. I sent in an oversized Marichal last year, and they sent it back as "Not Holdered - Miscut".

Same here, Ive had about 10 cards sent back bc of mis cut or oversized. Its anoying. I think they graded it without measuring it, But when they went to put it in a case they realized it didnt fit. So they just used a bowman case on it.

I guess I lucked out because I had about 4 or 5 slightly over-sized cards come back graded . . . check this out:

So you cant move it now I guess... PSA really picked a nice case for you at least. Biger the better right?

If your card is slightly larger in size (like your Karras) PSA will slab it and put it in a condom as shown above as long as it doesn't have a wavy or bulged out edge (called miscut). Similar to PSA slabbling up slightly undersized cards as long as they're not trimmed that happen to fall within a 1/32" or so in size to the normal size card.

Sadly Lee is correct. Oversized 7's sell better than legit 8's for the obvious, sad reasons.
