New addition to my modern type set 1900-

Well I had the day off and enjoyed it very much by picking up one of Bill Harkey's kennedys on E-bay image . I had my eye on the 1973-D and was given very good advice (by a truly trusted board member here)that it would be the coin to have, but since it was selling after the 1971-D that I bought, I wasn't sure I had enough money to go the distance to fight it out for the 73-D. If I could not have the 1973-D, I wanted the 1971-D, but how to do this when the 71-D ended first? I bit the bullet and opted for the 71-D first and to my surprise, there was not really a fight image . Think this will move me into 17th (current finest, 18th all time), not a really big move, but I'll take'em as I can. Anyone else make any purchases lately? Have a great weekend all image .

  • Nice coin! Seems like a good price too. Still haven't got any of the Kennedies in my Type Set (except for a bu*t ugly proof).

    Congrats on your find!

    Mr. Jobes,
Thank you for your kind words. You have some real gems in your set I wish were in mine. In reading your statement outlining your set,I see we have the same idea on proofs and SMS coins. There are others that like Proofs very much and (don't get me wrong) there is nothing wrong with that, I just prefer business/matte strikes also. You are very much on you way to a real gem collection. Good luck. image

I also picked up one of Bill Harkey's Kennedy halves off of eBay. Mine is the 1987-D PCGS MS67. Can't wait to get it! Congratulations on your move, Kenny. Even though its not a big move, any move in the upward direction is good.

    Thanks Matt,
I think there was some really good deals and the prices would have been higher if Bill would have had the auctions end in the evening time. This is really fun! Have a great weekend. I'm taking my 6 yr old to see Lord of the Rings. Later.......

  • It looks like almost all of Bill's Kennedys got picked up by Registry set holders or board members. I think that I recognized every winner bidder there was. Wish I could have played to, but funds committed in other directions. image

    Keith,
I know what you mean, that's it for me for a while. Oh, maybe I shouldn't say but Bill said I that I could register the coin after I sent my payment ha ha (he laughs). Glad to see we can all still laugh and have a good time.

P.S. I was warned by another trusted board member here, that on a scale of 1-10 Harry Potter (which we have seen) was a 1 and that Lord of the Rings was a 10 as far as scary/bloody (not for kids), so we saw Jimmy Neutron and loved it. Goodday all........
