My first submission, and a question.

Not too bad, most graded at least one grade higher than I insured for. I'll get some scans up when I get them back: Quick question for you too. How much does the value go down on an OC qualifier? That Bill Russell was a really nice looking card, I was a little dissappointed about the qualifier. It wouldn't go lower than the next grade lower would it?

Depends on the card and the market. The PSA set registry knocks down qualified cards by two grades, so it gives you credit for a PSA 6 if you have a PSA 8OC. While that's just for the registry, it seems that the market tends to agree with that ratio, so it wouldn't shock anyone if your card sells in the PSA 6 range. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Regardless, that's a very nice submission! Be sure to post some scans when you get the slabs back.
  • An PSA8OC has a -2 drop when added to a Registry set so a PSA8OC = PSA6.

  • Thanks for the info. One more question. If I submitted that card with the "no qualifier" instructions, would they have graded it a 7 or a 6, or not at all?
Yeah, I'll get some scans up sometime early next week for sure.

Those are some great 50's grades, especially for your 1st submission.

As ajw said above, normally a qualifier will knock it down about 2 grades. However, if you request no qualifiers, sometimes you get lucky and only get knocked down one notch.

It depends on where the centering falls, it didn't fall inline with PSA 8 centering, so you'd have to measure it up. If it's 90/10 on the front and you request NQ, they'll hit it with a 3. If it falls in line with PSA 7 centering, you'll get a 7, though that's pretty rare. In my experience, they usually just give it the lower, unqualified grade if it's that close. So my guess is, and this is only a guess, but my guess would be that the centering is PSA 6 or worse. Personally, a PSA 8 OC says "much nicer than a 6, but the centering kinda sucks" vs a 6 leaves the mind wondering... Sight unseen, I can go either way, but I know what a PSA 8 OC is going to probably look like. A psa 6 could be for any number of reasons. centering, dings, very small wrinkles, print spots 1 bad corner, 3 great ones, 4 touched corners...who knows. To each his own.
