1972 Topps Carlton Fisk Grading Opinions Wanted Warning...Large Scan

I am thinking of listing this 1972 Topps Carlton Fisk rookie on Ebay. Obviously, it is off center top to bottom, but that is the only flaw when you hold it in your hands. The scan implies a small indention on the lower right corner, but it is not there in person. It is similar to an O-Pee-Chee cut on that corner(for lack of a better description).

I want to be accurate if I list this card. I'm thinking of calling it NM. I thought about sending it in and asking for no PSA qualifiers and figured I would get a 7.

What do you guys think?

  • I'm not thinking this is an unqualified 7. Perhaps an unqualified 6?

If all 4 corners are strong and square, then listing it as NM is not out of line. The bidder will see the centering for themselves and make the decision of whether or not they can tolerate the centering on an otherwise sharp card.

JMB, you may be right. The eye appeal is super on this card, but I don't sell many raw cards on Ebay because grading is so subjective. Thanks for the opinion.

The rough cut could get by without deduction....but the bottom right corner appears to be more then just the rough cut.......I will say PSA 6 also.

I'm gonna give it a 7 because I like you. I think NM would be an accurate description, but as long as you use a detailed scan , you can call it whatever you want since people can see it.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Nice Fisk RC. Your card looks at least NM, but with the t-b centering being nearly 80-20, I don't think this will grade a straight 7 according to PSA standards. With no qualifiers it's a 6, with qualifiers it might 7 oc, or possibly 8 oc.

Thanks, guys. I haven't really looked at this one for awhile. It is certainly true that grading your own cards is much harder than grading your own. I think I'm going to keep this one after all. Thanks again.

  • Not taking whatever is wrong with the bottom right into account, the card should grade a straight 7. The top to bottom centering is within the 75/25 limits of a 7, but just barely. It is the super corners that keep this card at that grade.
  • I'd rotate the scan so it's horizontal. Nice card, though!

I rate it no higher than a Good (3).

I will take it off of your hands and even give you $20 for your time.

    LMK

    Or it's a 7.

    Whatever.
