The "BONES" of Registry Sets

After reading various old threads both here and on Net54 I think the consensus is that four species of "BONES" dominate the trading card field:
1. The "BACKBONE" collectors - Those concentrating on PSA7 or better cards.
2. The "ARMPIT BONE" collectors - Those collecting cards in the PSA3 to PSA6 cards.
3. The "TAILBONE" collectors - Those collecting PSA1 & PSA2 and low grade raw cards.
4. The "WISHBONE" collectors - Those who plan to buy everything after they hit the Lotto.
Which one are you? Nos. 2 & 4 apply to me.
This is kinda tongue in cheek and not meant to offend anyone.

It is such a flawed concept to start with anyway. Most collectors would love a low-grade obscure set Hall of Famer over a traditional set card in PSA 7 or above.

Quality of cards is definitely important -- but I think that in most cases, rarity trumps condition.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • None of the "Bones" in your list describes the feeling I get when I get a great card at an even greater price.....

I must not understand the joke because I completely disagree with your terms.

Every collector is just as important and vital as the other...

Out of curiosity, who termed those phrases?

Awww, the little squirrel has a gun.....
  • There was a controversy on the Net54 boards where a prominent collecter called highgrade collectors the "BACKBONE" of the hobby. He got many negative responses because the impression he left was that any card in a lower grade than PSA8 was not worth collecting - the inside joke became that other collectors were the "TAILBONE" of the hobby. I am just trying to expand the concept.

Perhaps someone's expansion into non sports is ruffling some feathers?

    I would add this -

    5. Those who "GET BONED" by the graders.

    Tongue in cheek of course.

    6. Those who want graders to throw them a "Bone" every now and then on the '81 topps (baseball) subs

There is an ARMPIT BONE? My anatomy professor made no mention of this bone.

Then there is the "taking it on the chin-bone collector": one who always gets sniped on ebay.
