GEM Graded cards????? Run away!!!!!!

I must thank the members of this forum. I had recently picked up two GEM graded cards in a lot deal. I have bought and sold many cards on ebay under "tri-cdeals" but never really dealt with GEM. Well, the cards looked nice at first glance, both graded Pristine 10...one a Lebron rookie and the other a Clemens rookie. After reading about Gem propensity to either trim or at least grade trimmed cards, I measured both cards and sure enough both were woefully undersized. And to think I was almost ready to crack them and send to PSA. No wonder the cards were so cheap and basically thrown into the lot....you saved me some money and I appreciate it. I know now if it says GEM anywhere in the ebay listing, I am gone! Oh, unfortunately I still have a GEM 2003 Lebron Ultra coming in the mail...only paid $14.00 for a Pristine, now I know why...want to bet it will be trimmed???? John

the only thing that should be trimmed is your neck hair and your "nether" regions.

Lebron might not be trimmed (not sure why a 03 would be trimmed)

  • STAY AWAY FROM GEM GRADING! Every card I have seen graded by them
has been altered or fake. Check out their website. You can't even look
up the "serial numbers" that are on the back of their holders. Maybe their
coin grading is somewhat legit, but stay away from any cards graded by them.

In my life I have bought one GEM card, and sold one

Not so fast. The first graded card I bought was a Tony Gwynn Topps rookies graded GEM...(drumroll)...9

It's since been sold, but sometimes I wish I had it back just to be able to see how bad it really must have been to garner that grade.
