If Upper Deck buys Topps will Playoff get back in the game?

As many of you know, Upper Deck is attempting to buy Topps. If they do, I wonder what the chances are that Playoff would be granted a licence again?

Also, thoughts about what might happen if Upper Deck is the only baseball card producer for 2008 are welcome. Would it be similar to what they are doing in hockey?

I don't know anything about Hockey but if it turns back into only a few products like in the 80's or early 90's that would be cool in my book.

Screw these $600 packs of sterling and exquis bring back 10 brands only. For instance you could have one affordable brand to bring the kids back in (Topps, Donruss, UD, Bowman, Fleer). Then have a premium brand of cards for the other guys with coin.

    Topps
    Topps Finest
    Donruss
    Donruss Preffered
    UD
    SP
    Bowman
    Bowman Chrome
    Fleer
    Fleer Ultra

    What do you think?

Favre, you are right on in your opinion. If those products you mentioned were done right, sales would be strong for the dealers and card makers, and value would be given to collectors. In fact, I think value is what the companies are missing by and large. Hopefully, that is changing. If not, I will continue to stay away from most modern cards.

I'd love to see a couple more inexpensive issues to get the kids back into the hobby!

If Topps (the granddaddy of 'em all) is actually "bought out" by some relatively young pup (Upper Deck, 1989), I'd say it's the end of the hobby in terms of new releases. Upper Deck just will not take Topps history and heritage (both the card set and their heritage in general) as seriously as Topps itself can. Oh well, there's still, eh, 20th century vintage. image I mean Fleer going under was bad enough.
