Bidder to Block?? eBay is Getting Worse...

Sold a few duplicate Hoyt Wilhelm PSA's last night. Soon after all of the invoices were sent, I received the following message from one of the high bidders...
"truly did not mean to bid on this item. there was a card above it about to end in less than a minute so in a hurry i clicked on the wrong one. i am hoping that you will not make me pay for this. thanks."

Of course I am expecting you to pay for this...
What would you guys do??
Thanks.

Just another ebay loser.
<< <i>At the very least you should file a NPB. Does eBay still have the 3 strikes policy? >>
yes they do and after the fourth strike ebay makes you a powerseller.
i'd file the non paying bidder after the 7 days or is it 10? days. don't let him off too easy

I think most here are fair enough that they wouldnt advertise someone to block unless there was a good reason for it...not someone's honest mistake.
This is a rare opportunity for those who sell to pick and choose who they do NOT want to sell to. Most retailers don't get that option.
If you dont want to use the info then that is your perrogative but I wouldnt begrudge anyone wanting to protect their name or investments.

It is a tough call, on a subject that I have thought alot
about.
There are some potential legal issues that, however
remote they seem, could cause problems.
Bulk-lists on message boards also allow for the possibility
of mischief on the part of the contributors.
I am somewhat surprised that the lists here - so far - are
so small. On some accounts, I have lists that are getting
pretty close to the number limit.
I am not totally opposed to shared lists, but the public posting
of bulk names just seems wrong somehow. That, however,
will not prevent me from adding the names to my lists.
While not all bad-EBAYers are always bad, I tend to think
that if one has acted unreasonably with another seller/buyer,
they are likely to do it repeatedly. That is the whole concept
behind feedback.
Bulk-IDs - without the background stories that we all see here
so often - are probably not the best solution; but, they are
probably a partial remedy.

Very true. I have actually bid on a wrong card a couple times but always (with one exception) just paid the seller and listed the card later. Heck, I very recently won a 1970 Topps baseball #68 when I thought I was bidding on #70. Paid and moved on but missed getting the card I needed. This type of mistake can happen when a bidder is in a hurry. Not terribly long ago I won a 1999 Topps Traded autographed card. Problem was the card wasn't the Topps certified auto card inserted into factory sets, just an IP or fake auto. The seller was being sneaky listing the card at below market price but just high enough to assume the card was the factory version without looking for the stamp. When you see a cheap BIN you often have to act very quickly or lose out. This is likely what the seller was hoping for. I looked at the scan one more time before getting ready to pay and noticed the card wasn't the certified copy and contacted the seller informing him of my intention not to pay while mentioning my concerns above. He asked that I pay his listing and FV fee and he would forget about it. A cheap $2 lesson to make sure the card is legit before hitting the BIN or making a bid, though I had a reasonable NPB defense appeal had I decided not to appease the seller. If this seller were to post my ID in a forum like this many sellers would lose honest bids.
If I were in the shoes of the original poster I would probably just take the buyer's statement at face value and let him off the hook. I liken this to a shopper at Target grabbing a bottle of shampoo when he really wanted conditioner. The $5 sale is not enough for me to deal with the hassle. Pressing the issue would likely cause me to lose the customer and possibly others after he tells his buddies how big of an arse I am. Worst case scenario I'm out some loose change in fees but to each his own.
<< <i>He did that to someone else and then negged them. Just let it go and block the loser. Not worth a neg over a few bucks.
