When did the Kennedy half dollar design change??

I just noticed last P.M. that when comparing obverse of coins from early 70s to more recent years there appears to have been a slight change in the obverse of the Kennedy half dollar. Most evident where front of hair touches letters around rim.

When did this change take place??

About the same time the mint decided the big hairy head was causing the dies to wear out too quickly

The obverse began a gradual change in the late '80's. The radical change to spaghetti head happened in 1991.

Take a look at a full date set and you'll be amazed at the differences year to year in the last 2 decades.

And from beginning to end it looks like a completely different coin design/

Since it sems everyone agrees there have been design changes let me ask are there any years where 2 clearly different obverses were used??

Any years with a type I and type II obs??

The shrunk his head as well. They look horrible and phony -- as does most of the modern-hub ultra-moderns.

I'm not aware of any half dollars but there are various coins where there
are old and new reverses used the same year and a cent with a type I/
type II. There are also some where there are obverse varieties.

But is they any post 1964 year where two different types of obs were used??
Is there any year with a Type ! and a Type II obs??

A lot of modern coins change over the years, look at cents... Compare a 68 and 69 cent bust (69 is flatter) or compare the bust on the copper ones to the zinc ones (zinc are flatter yet) or compare the reverse lettering from a 92 with a 93, when they changed from the 92 and before wide AM to the 93 and later close AM the reverse lettering all changed.

Yes. The '74 lg dt and sm dt cents were just such a change.

There are two different size busts on '85-P quarters but these are varieties rather than a lasting design change.

Since the date is incorporated right into the obverse most of the anomalies appear on the reverse. I suppose you could consider that the reverse is proper but it has the wrong obverse.

82 cents have zinc and coppers with different dates and busts.

There are others too.
