El Duque gets standing Ovation at away stadium!

That is why Yankee fans are tops in class....they gave El Duque a standing ovation when he departed with a 6-0 deficit.....only at yankee stadium will you see a scene like that, as fans give repsect to one fo their own...he tipped his cap before entering the visitors dugout, a feeling he wont surely forget!

ps..for the last 4 years, people have written the yankees off before july....remember, its 162 games...

The same for Tino Martinez when he returned as an opposing player.

Nice touch by the fans, but that is hardly unique. Mets fans gave Mike Piazza a standing ovation when he came to bat for the first time as a Padre last season.

Not even unique to today - Dave Roberts has received huge ovations at Fenway all weekend in his first return back, with the SF Giants. Roberts had THE stolen base in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS with sparked the biggest comeback ever, from 0-3 down to beat the Yankees then win the World Series. Not that any Yankees fans forgot about that, I'm sure, as much as they would like to!

I doubt any former Philly player would feel the love here - but Philadelphia is a tough town.

Only at Yankee Stadium? Nah. Happens often when fan-favorites leave the team on good terms (with the fans, anyway). I remember in particular Mark Grace getting a thunderous welcome when he came back to Wrigley with the Diamondbacks.

Philly fans showed Thome some love earlier this week with a standing ovation. A classy move, especially since he only played 2 seasons in Philadelphia.

I was at the Phillies game on Wednesday when Thome came up for the first time. It was a really great ovation, enough that he had to step out of the box and tip his helmet. There were also alot of people wearing Thome jerseys, must have taken them all out of storage.

Well, from what I heard some Chicagoians (is that the right word?) believe you're either a Cubs (North Sider) fan or a fan of the "good guys" (South Sider; "good guys" is distinctively a White Sox nickname), you can't be both. Others of course, believe Chicago is Chicago and root for all four of the teams (Cubs, ChiSox, Bulls, Bears)

I think that was the whole point. The fans knew Thomas would've stayed in Chitown his entire career had the team brass let him.

You should see the Metrodome when Randy Moss shows up. When we played the Raiders in pre-season the year he was traded away, that place was packed (it was the 1st preseason game and attendance is usually in the 20k range). This game was over 40k visitors and almost everyone was wearing their Moss jerseys. When he came running on the field, not one boo...the place roared like it did when he came out of the Vikings tunnel.

I think it's always a classy move by fans to recognize the contributions former players gave you. Unless you were Chuck Knoblauch returning to the dome with the Yankees...He was a douche.

Actually, wrong. Jim Thome returned last week with the White Sox and got a HUGE ovation from the crowd. It was quite impressive!

white sox fans booed Sammy because he used steriods...the same reaction he'll get at Fenway when he comes here in June, and he has no affiliation with the city....

"Yankees fans are tops in class"....that one near killed me.

The Yanks always welcome back their former stars, like Clemens and Wade Boggs. Or should I say, even Clemens and Boggs.

just thought it was interesting how he got a standing-O when he was exiting the game with his team LOSING 6-0....THAT doesnt happen very often...i know returing position players are cheered often but it is more rare with a pitcher, after all, he is trying to beat YOUR team!

To go with your 162 game season comment, Sparky Anderson said it best below.

You are going to win 50 games and you are going to lose 50 games. It is up to you with what you do with the remaining 62 games.
