OT: the all-time 11

A little off-topic, but I thought worth posting: The All-Time 11:

<< <i>Eleven men culled from the thousands who have played during the entire 86-year history of professional football. They had to play offense. They had to play defense. They had to play special teams. And we get just 11 players to build a perfect team that could run, pass, catch, kick, punt, block and tackle better than any other 11 you could put in front of them. >>

  • Cool article.

Along those lines, any support for the idea of getting rid of kickers and punters? Basketball doesn't have a "designated free thrower." (a grandma of a buddy of mine made over 2000 straight in a contest in Iowa... I'd love to see her sub in to shoot Shaq's foul-shots). Have the actual football players do the job. It would make things a heck of a lot more interesting, and would get rid of hard-played games being decided by a guy who would be killed if he actually played a position.

    Go Badgers!

Great article! I'd like to see Jim Thorpe on the team, but I don't know who he would replace. The first names I thought of when I saw the premise were Bednarik, <shudder> Deion, and Thorpe.

I was surprised to see the Galloping Ghost did not make the list. But any list with Nagurski on it is ok by me. For Jimmy Brown I don't know as if "strong" is strong enough to put before "safety". Few have dominated like Jim Brown did, and those who have (or at least come close) did not do it as long as Brown managed to. No doubt in my mind that had Brown not walked away while still at the top of his game that he would still top the all time leading rusher list. He and Earl Campbell are my two favorite backs to watch and just absolutely marvel at.
