Great tunraround but disappointed with grades.

Not going to lay into the grader. I don't see it. These were my best pulls out of 4 vending boxes !! Yes, over 2,000 cards and i send in 50 of the best pulls. Not 1 PSA 10 ????????????????????????????????????? Very disappointed. 5's well i must have missed one of those faint factory wrinkles. I'm not new at grading so this really makes me wonder how the big guys keep getting 10's. No names because we all know who.
What a waste of money and time.

Was that the $5 per card June special or the 5 day/$13 per card special?

You rarely will pull 10's out of vintage vending. There's almost always a slightly touched corner that's consistent throughout the box. Sometimes you need a loupe to see it but it's there. Those thin blue boxes just didn't provide enough protection so if the boxes got moved around at all over the years, they will not be 10s.

wow , 3 day turnaround , amazing , so much for the theory that everyone is going the distance.

I have to concur aboutthe vending , i submitted from a bunch of 76-80 vending boxes and out of 10 boxes i think I pulled 8 10's. the structure of the vending box and how the cars are packed lead to 9 material as long as the box was not dropped. when you submit from racks or from sets that were put in pages since inception , the percentage is infinitely higher.

i had similar results awhile back grading '78 Topps Hockey from wax including the dreaded ripple 5's.....i won't do that again, but they are great looking cards and look fine in Card Savers image
  • This was the June 5.00 dollar special. I sent in 3 subs and this was the first one to pop. OUCH !!
All cards were checked with a 10 X loop. I obviously didn't check for those ripples to well.
This is just another one of those sets i'm collecting just for the fun of it. Also collecting the 1981 Topps hockey set just for the fun of it. I have always liked the 1978 and especially the 1981 Topps sets. Cards from both these years are alot harder then what people think to get in 9's let alone 10's. I just could not believe that i didn't get 1 PSA 10 out of 50 !!
I've done better with my 1970 and 1971 Topps submissions then these.

Wow, 3 days on the June special is amazing, but the guys still waiting on the March and April specials will not find anything even remotely fair about this.

There is no rhyme or reason to how they choose what to grade.

I am sitting on a 213 card order that logged 4/30 which arrived on 4/16.

If they had graded this they may have gotten more of the 1200 cards I have waiting to be graded.

Wax or rack will surely up the chances at 10's.

    Hi Ezy,
Sorry you got some tough grades here. It's just plain frustrating
when you're spent the time and energy screening cards only to get back a lot of 8's.

I know you know cards and have a great eye for grading.
Sounds like the grader of death is alive and well. ..........

    Regards,
    Rich
