(And strangely, I planned to write this thread before I saw the one that is similar...)
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

  • Too bad the Celtics or Lakers from the 80's don't play in this era, they would be unstoppable.

Im saying not since the 80's have these "dynasties" been tested like the champs then. Lebron is great, but that doesn't make a team. Out
of the remaining 4, NONE of them would of been even bench players for the 80's Lakers, Celtics and Pistons. Rings and their records
    are diluted now.

I see what your saying, OK

I agree with that - the 80's Celtics would absolutely mop the floor with the Spurs of today. Duncan is a nice player, but will anyone ever think of him as one of the all-time greats (like you do with Bird, McHale, Parish etc.)? The league really is watered down today, compared with the 80's - 90's.

Look at it this way, Lebron James made the NBA Finals basically by himself. Allegedly there were some other players this year on the Cavs, but I can't recall any of them at the moment.

Jeter has more rings than Arod. Big deal. Lots of players have more rings than Barkley. Rings are overated as an indicator of a player's worth.

And you've been a fan of the Spurs for how long? 24-hours?

    Sincerely,

Duncan is no Bird certainly. And I think McHale is underrated historically, but I take Duncan in a heartbeat over Mchale or Parish.

I've been a SPURS fan and supporter for a long time----- since they moved from Dallas as Chaperrals and became THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS. About the time I returned from my 4th Vietnam tour. 30 something years ago. Hang In There--- TONY

For one, you obviously missed the joke... Never once saw anyone post being a Spurs fan, hence the JS reference.

Also, I still don't understand the "more than you can remember I'm sure" comment but whatever.

I will admit that I didn't know the Spurs originally were in Dallas, then went regionally with Ft. Worth/Lubbock/Dallas, only to end up in SA.

And finally, thank you for serving this country image

Comparing Duncan to Mchale or Parrish is absolutely rediculous. I think this Spurs team could compete with the 80's Celtics, perhaps not beat them in a 7 game series, but it would be close.

  • Just one thing I dont understand, how can the league be watered down when so many more countries send some of their best players to compete in the NBA. I have a hard time believing that the NBA was at its peak of talent in the 80's. Maybe the lack of talent in the 80's aside the superstars, is what made them so great at the time. I'm not saying the Spurs or Tim Duncan are the best of all time, but I do think they deserve a little more credit than they get. Just a thought, but I'm sure there will be like 900 post saying how great Bird and Magic where and how weak the Spurs and Tim Duncan are.
