I don't know. Yes, maybe they needed a kick in the rear but replacing a HOF hitter like Murray with Bill Mueller??

Being in the HOF does not necessarily make you a better manager or coach. Ted Williams was a horrible manager.

If I was a hitting coach I would tell the players that you can't think and hit at the same time.

A couple of things...

1) A hitting coach is the easy scapegoat. In the Dodgers case, it is the GM that should be the one that should be getting scrutinized. He isn't going to fire himself.

2) As per HOFer. It is true that being a HOFer doesn't necesarrily mean you will be a great coach. Players are HOFers because they have immense natural ability and drive. Often times it is the scrappy players that had to learn all the tools of the trade possible to even be a viable mlb candidate. As a result, he may have more to offer most of the players.

3) You don't even have to be a former player to be a good coach. One of the best youth coaches I know is a woman who never played a game in her life, but she 1)Goes to ever collegiate or pro instructional camp available, and 2)is good at relaying the information to the players. THe pros ain't any different. Two guys may have the same knowledge, but the one who conveys it better will be better off.

4)Hitting and pitching coaches are the easy scapegoats...did I say that already?

The dodgers veterans are kind of old, decrepid and underperforming... Murray is an easy scape goat.

My guess is there's a lot of hitting coaches in MLB that are there for a paycheck and to be around the game, but aren't great coaches.

And let's not forget what kind of manager Babe Ruth most likely would've been if given the chance (he did have a chance to manage the Yankees' AAA team but his wife talked him out of it).

I think what Dog is referring to is how can you possibly know what kind of manager Ruth would have been had he become a manager. Unless Wikipedia can now predict things that haven't come to fruition. Making a statement with the qualifier "most likely would have been," renders such a statement as nothing more than an opinion, not fact.
