"Red/Brown" Lincoln Cents...

How do you decide on a "RB" designation? or maybe a better way to ask is what other factors come into play? Is it based on a % or a majority of brown?...I have seen that some coins in other companies holders were listed as RED...but were cracked out and sent to PCGS and came back RB...can you explain how you come up with this? Thanks

    Hi Shawn,

Here's the definition of Red-Brown from the PCGS Lingo:
"A copper coin that has from 5 to 95 percent of its original mint color remaining (RB)"

Thus, a Brown coin has less than 5% original red still remaining and a Red coin has more than 95% of the original red color still remaining.

Other companies may use standards that differ from those used by PCGS.
