Does this have a chance of crossing from sgc96 to psa9?

I just got this in the mail, bought it from an ebay seller that forgot to include a scan of the back. My fault for not asking, sometimes I'm way too trusting. I love the card, I'm just disappointed in the back.

PSA says 90/10 on the back, is this nice enough overall to get the 9 and is it better to leave it in the sgc holder or risk killing it taking it out?

Thanks for any advice!

The front looks a little off-center (just a quick guess, maybe: L/R 68/32)...

Still, looks pretty nice in that holder!

I looked thru a batch of 1975 OPC PSA 10's I own, and scanned these four for your viewing, as my "worst off-centered on the reverse 1975 PSA 10's!"...

    That seller should be whipped.

I would never sell a card with a back like that, WITHOUT
showing a pic in the listing. Outrageous!

Sadly, you will have to leave it in the current holder.

Why? You do realize that the back measures 87/13? If you are referring to the corners, I think the bottom right will knock it out, but not the centering on the back.

i agree with Storm, happened to me once to from a seller named billinmich. (or something like that) I bid heavy on a PSA 9 low pop 65 Jim Hickman. The back is 90/10! would have been nice if the seller mentioned it. I emailed him when i got it and told him that had I known that the reverse just made the standard i would have bid less and that I would not ever again bid on his stuff. Around 2 months later he had a few cards I needed and I passed.

For the life of me I can't grade a card MINT when the reverse is 90/10..............To me that is a near mint card.

Jim. i'd just leave it in the sgc holder. If you want a PSA example you will have to crack it out and take the chance.

    Good for you.

That's why I will not hesitate asking for a scan of the back of any graded card I may be interested in. I try to remember to include a pic of the back of the graded cards I sell.

I agree with Storm and Steve. This is the main reason I wish more sellers would show a scan of the back of the card they are listing, at least high dollar cards anyway.

But the back, at least by my calculation, is within specs of a 9. So what's the problem? If you don't like the eye appeal, that's fine, I don't either but don't say it definitely won't cross to a 9. It's just like debating whether a 80/20 card can be PSA 7 or a 75/25 be PSA 8.
  • the centering on the back is within PSA 9 guidelines. I think the front looks fine. The "rough" cut on the bottom is typical on the 75s...I have many 9s like your card. I think it will cross.

If that Oscar Zamora can get a 10 then I think your card has a good chance at a 9, IMO.
  • Personally, oc backs don't bother me. I don't think PSA really cares too much about it either. I sent this card in and it got a 10:

    "...I don't either but don't say it definitely won't cross to a 9."

There is some merit to that statement.

But, the question was about the "risk" of sending it
to PSA. If the card measures 87/13, it might make
the 9 holder; the risk is that it might come back an 8.

As we all know, all 9s/8s/7s are not created equal.
That is why creepy sellers do not show both sides
of the skunky cards they sell.

If you must send it in, I would not take it out of the
holder. Because it has a high-grade on it, PSA might
cut it some slack. Once it is in an 8 holder, it will be
    both OC/rev and pretty worthless.

If cards follow the stamp-side, it may not be too long
b4 the backs are more important than the fronts. Young
folks buying stuff to hold longterm should ONLY buy the
most perfect stuff they can find/afford.

most sellers don;t post scans of the backs , me included , since if yo usell a lot , it take s way too much time . I am not trying to hide anything it is just enough effort to scan the fronts. if someone asks , I get it to them right away. as for this card , it qualifies on the back , I am not sure if the front will make it but it does look nice . look at the sides of the "1960 MVP's box" if you want to measure the front centering. as for the back it is a gamble and may take a couple shots , psa is very inconsistent wnhe you get to the edge of the criteria on the back. very nice card none the less. if it is for a personal collection, I would leave it as is since it looks great in that holder

I usually do not scan backs of common/inexpensive cards.

If I have such a card with a problem on the back,
I scan it. This takes alot less time than dealing
    with an angry buyer.

Thanks guys, I'm leaving it SGC. Not worth the risk, and it looks good in that holder.

  • See, I have to disagree. Check out this card. It presents well, but that one little imperfection on the back and it gets an MC...

Send it in for a crossover review and see what happens. No risk, and great upside. Card is great from the front, though appears to have a slight tilt. I have to admit too, I really like it with that black surround the card pops beautifully in that holder.

I guess so much for the idea of buying graded cards so you can buy them "sight unseen". Still, some very nice OPC's; they look even bolder/more colorful than the Topps cards! image But that's okay, I'd be so, so happy to get a super duper nice NRMT/MT raw 1975 Topps set for Christmas this year! image And then maybe 1974 w/ my tax refund right after that! image
