1982 vs 1983 Donruss

I did not want to hijack the other members thread, but I was wondering about others opinions on the 82 and 83 donruss, which one do you like better and why?

    Hey Stingray,

You could have hijacked my thread.... image

Anyway, the reason I went with the 83 break instead of the 82 was because of 3 big rookies instead of just the 1 with Ripken in the 82, thus increasing my chances of pulling a big card.....

Of course that Logic did me little good imageimage

Borrowed these scans from someone on Ebay.

I kinda like the 83s (regardless of who's in the set).

They are so similiar that it is kind of a toss up to me, but I tend to like the 83s a little better.

I notice that the 83s tend to have the dark, rich colors that you see in the 84 and 85 Donruss sets.

Changing over from the 1982 to the 1983 design (both front and back) was beyond lazy on Donruss' part. Maybe they laid off their design team in the offseason b/t those two years? image

1983's are easier to find in high grade because their sealed factory sets are so much more common. You can pick up a sealed one for $30.

On the other hand, 82 donruss factory sets were not available sealed and are harder to come by in good condition. Centering is more of an issue. For grading I like 82 set a lot more because it is more of a challenge to get a 10. I also like the early eighties crappy photos of 82!!!

I agree with Donruss being lazy in the design from 1982-83.
