Anyone know who owns one of these '52 Topps Mantles?

Anyone know who actually owns one of these '52 Mantles?

Just for fun, how much do you think it would go for at auction?

6 figures? 7 figures? ???

First let me say that I would love to own that card, but that being said it does have a slight tilt cut. The bottom left border is thicker than the top left border. I know that PSA factors that in, and im sure it still meets the criteria, im just saying its there. Is it still a monster card....yes. Does the tilt distract just a little bit.....yes.
  • Isn't that the card that's owned by Marshell Fogel

Marshall definitely still owns one. I thought Candiotti owned one as well, although he may not any longer. And I don't recall off the top of my head where the third PSA 10 is. I'm not sure whose is whose...
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Agree with MS that Fogel does have one but that's not it. At least it's not the one pictured in his registry sets.

The card pictured is actually in my collection. The "tilt" to the card is actually not noticable in... Wait a minute. You mean that's not a reprint? My bad.

Yea the tilt would give it a 9 in my eye. But I bet it was the first ever graded.

I'll tell ya what though, whoever sent it in to be graded probably really wasn't expecting a 10, then again some people feel everything they have deserves a mint grade

    Mint is mint .

I can see that from across the street .
Might be the nicest one I have ever seen though .

Wild guess , I'm sure someone out there would pay over 300 K for that one .

It completely blows me away that you can almost buy a house for a card of that quality.

I would have a really hard time letting that go though even for 500K
But that's just me . . . . Cash comes back , you might never see that card ever again , plus it might go to some snot nosed spoiled rotten kid who's old man got 10 more dollars than God .
    Those are the things I fear , I don't know why I can't help thinking about that . . . . It getting destroyed < SHIVER >

If I'm not mistaken , I do believe one was sold for over 250 K back in the day . . . Ummmm yea , I forgot when though maybe 2002 ??
  • handymanhandyman Posts: 5,396 ✭✭✭✭✭
Funny you say that about going to a spoiled kid.
Did you ever read that article in the SMR about some little 12 year olds card collection. He had 100s of PSA 7-8 T206s and he was talking about his favorite card that he bought. It was a T3 1911 Ty Cobb PSA 8, Sold for about 75,000.00. He said I paid a little to high for it but I really wanted the card. YOUR FREAKING 12. You paid a little high for it. Or you just dont know what money is??!! And how to make it!

I didn't look in the registry, just made a wild guess on who owned the one that is pictured.

I would bet the next time one of those comes up for auction it brings around half a million.

That's mine. Don West and Kenny Goldin were hawking some grab bags back in 2002 and I grabbed it for $99.99 plus shipping and handling. I also got a Todd Van Poppell rookie in that bag, but it was scuffed up--almost as if someone was swimming on it. ???

Never saw that Mr. HandyMan, but I can definitley see it .
That's the way it goes though for daddy Warbucks children though, nothing wrong with that either . . . . just as long as they know how to care for it , I'm sure many only think of it as just a lousy piece of cardboard and that would be a shame , the world could lose that gem forever and ever and that would be bordeline criminal .

Having said that though . . . .I'm sure many who hold those 8's and 9's wouldn't mind as far as resale , wouldn't a confirmed destruction of one of those puppies raise the value of the rest ?

    Edited to add:
What even made me think that ??
I know there are some hard core Mantle fans out there ,
I don't wanna get met in a dark ally and get my legs clipped image
I guess it all stems from the time I was offered a lot of money from a MAJOR Red Sox fan to take 1 shot at my baseball with a baseball bat !

Come to think of it . . . are you out there dude ? image
If you are , I think that scarred me for life , but it's all good , I bet you're not alone either .

That card gets my house plus I'll throw in my 72 Datsun 240 Z (just a poor boy here).

I live in KC as well and I could have purchased two homes like mine and still have money left for a nice '52 Mantle.

i thought mark murphy bought a psa 10 about 7 years ago. not sure about it, but thats what i heard. i think it was around $100,000 then.
the last psa 9 sold for $282,000 so a ten has to be over $500,000. probably alot higher. those who have them, certainly do not need the money and may never sell then. so we may never see a sale in our lifetimes.

    She don't even know . . . .she don't even care . . .
She's just packin up all her stuff , ready to move into :The Villages :
To live that millionaires lifestyle and she's about to throw 4 wine cases full of baseball and football cards out onto the curb dating back to 1909 for the baseball and 1948 for the football .
The garbage man is in a hurry he don't catch it , Maybe if we're lucky some scrap collector finds them and saves them from their fate .
