JSA Autographs

This weekend I went to the Sportsfest Show in Rosemont, IL. I wanted to get a few autographs certified that I already knew were authentic. I had always heard good things about James Spence and I found the customer service I received at their booth to be top notch. They went so far as to go through the autographs I had with me and rather then trying to talk me into having everyone of them certified they took the time to let me know which ones would be a good idea based upon the scarcity of the signatures. BTW I had the autographs with certs back in less then 30 minutes!! My question comes from feedback I heard from a fairly well known GAI dealer (submission center) who told me that to those "In the know" JSA is a joke. He went on to tell me a story about a 100K plus ball that JSA deemed authentic that was an obvious fake and he says JSA has a bad reputation. I consider the members of this board to be as "In the know" as anyone I could think of. What are your opinions on JSA authenticated signatures? I know every company makes mistakes but would you feel comfortable buying JSA autographs?

BTW I am not trying to make this sound like a JSA commercial or to bash other companies. I have purchased autographs authenticated by PSA/DNA, GAI, JSA, Steiner ETC..

Agreed. I think people might have higher regards for PSA/DNA, but I think they are probably neck and neck. I am sure both have had autographs slip through that are not authentic, but both are quite good at what they do.
    Thanks

From what I have heard from people that I trust and my experiences with him - he is top notch! One of the best!

spence used to work for psa/dna too. from the items i watch jsa auto's may not get quite as much money as psa/dna of the same person. but yes, I would be comfortable buying jsa autos.

I think he may have JSA confused with the company he deals with! Global has waaaay more questionable autographs on the market. Just recently someone posted an article about the all the David Wright signatures. I collect Joe Paterno autographs and one or two used to pop up every couple of weeks. There are consistently 10-15 every day now, with the majority "authenticated" by GAI. Mostly by the same few dealers and the same sad attempts at trying to duplicate his signature. And the funny/sad thing is now the majority of people trying to sell fakes of Joe Pa on ebay now (not authenticated) are basing their forgery off the GAI examples. The market is flooded with even more junk now
