What is bid assist?

Saw on the Ebay community a new section called bid assist. Is it a sniping service? It says it bids for you. How is it different from when you place a max bid regularly? If it is a sniping service, is there a fee?

  • I haven't used it but it looks like a way to bid the same amount on multiple items with just one bid or bid on multiple items from the same page with one confirmation step for all the items (saves time). If you're a set builder, for example, and there are a bunch of commons all with the same SMR, you can check them all from the bid assistant page and enter the same maximum bid.

  • I have used bid assist, the only benifit I see is say I want a 1968 Tom Seaver PSA 7 and there are 10 of them on Ebay I can place a bid on all 10 say 50 bucks each max bid, it will only bid on the first one then if I don't win that one it will bid on the 2nd one then the 3rd one ect ect until I win one or lose all 10 auctions. plus the auctions have to be aleast 5 minutes apart or it will not work. It is not a snipe bid, as it will automatically bid on the item . the bid assist in MHO is all most useless, but I thought the light bulb was a fad that would go away.

I think Ebay would discourage offering a snipe bid service. they like to see 2 bids going back and forth bidding each other up with 5 days left on the auction.
