This may be a stupid question, but has someone (Beckett or otherwise) actually checklisted/cateloged

I mean the true 1/1 cards actually serial numbered "1/1" not those "1/1 cuz it's only PSA 10 in existance" or "1/1 cuz it's numbered 00001/10000 or (jersey number)/5000" gimmicks. The reason I ask is for some reason, even the Beckett Baseball Card Almanac (which otherwise lists virtually every baseball card known to exist) treats 1/1's (even the well known ones like the Ultra Masterpieces) as if they don't exist (they don't mention them at all).

  • You should call Beckett publishing to find out the real answer. My guess is that they don't print these for 2 reasons. #1 To follow this would be a waste of their resources. 1/1's don't traded often enough to generate any price history. #2 Similar to #1, it's questionable if many of these cards exist. With all the unopened product, some of these cards never see the light of day. Beckett is not going to track a card if it has never been found yet.
Your best source for this info would be the card companies themselves.

Nearly all 1/1s are parallels of a main set, so you have your checklists right there. There are some exceptions, though, which are usually top-end GU/auto cards. Those cards, even those not 1/1 but maybe #/2, #/3, etc., are tough to keep track of because they are not always numbered and information is not always announced or accurate. And I think the 1997 or 1998 SPX set had a tiered parallel so that only the last 10 cards in the set are 1/1s.

If you're talking about published pricing, it's impossible. While people often say a card is only worth what someone will pay for it, it's never truer than for 1/1s. Even general ideas like "Albert Pujols cards will be worth more than Bob Wickman cards" is not immutable fact.

I think it's funny when something like a 1/1 patch card from Exquisite sells for 5 times more than a 1/1 patch card from SPX. Yeah, sure the product was more expensive, but only because so little was made. Therefore you'd probably have to spend the same amount of money in each product to get a 1/1. And besides, there's only one of that card regardless of what set it's in, so demand should be equal for one 1/1 as it is for another similar 1/1 in a different set.

I actually think Beckett's online checklist does a pretty good job of this. They list 466 Will Clark cards from 2005, including many that were 1/1.

A prior poster is correct, in that most of these cards are simply parallel cards that were checklisted and well known upon that product's release.

They are listed if you follow the below steps. However, no master checklist exists; instead, they are all listed with the set they were produced for (of which there are thousands).

    1) Go to beckett.com
    2) Scroll over "Collecting Tools +"
    3) Select "My Collections"
    4) Create an account
    5) Create a collection (the green + button)
    6) (if not there after you create it) Click on the collection (it's a link)
    7) Click on the green + button (smaller this time) to "add" cards
    8) Follow the steps from there

They don't still insist that you NOT have what they call an "annoynomous email account", which is essentially nearly all of them (hotmail, AOL, Yahoo, etc), do they?
