Standard for Offering Fair Raw Grades on Ebay?

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone here sells raw cards on Ebay (mostly vintage) and, if so, what standard they use to offer the buyer an idea of what kind of condition they're in.
I know it's not cool to say 'might grade a PSA 4' so do people tend to use the old Beckett Baseball Card Monthly standard of Fair,Poor,Very Good,Excellent,Near Mint, Mint (and all the combos of such)? Or Sports Collectors' Digest? Is it the PSA version of VG/EX/NM/MT (without saying a number grade?). Or perhaps is there a new RAW standard out there lurking that I don't know about.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

  • I never call an ungraded card mint, I do sometimes give what I think it might grade. Usually try to let the photo speak for itself and if I see any major flaws I mention them.
  • Totally agree. I'm planning on offering very big high-res scans for the cards.
But I would like to give a fair and honest (and conservative) indication in the header as to what a potential bidder might expect.
Agreed also that nothing is mint raw. (and certainly NOTHING is Gem Mint).
But, you know, is it... VG-EX or... Fair-VG... or EX-MT or NM-MT (as the highest grade)?
Just looking for some opinions. Thanks everyone.

If a card is mint, tell people it's mint. If it's VG, tell them so.

And I disagree that no raw card is gem mint... image

I think if you are honest, and even a bit conservative, your feedback will reflect that and your future sales will reflect it as well.
  • I have bought raw cards off Ebay and had them go 10. Bought a lot of 23 Jordan card for 23 cents plus shipping. 9 of those cards are in PSA 10 holders.

However grading raw is too subjective and what I might say is mint others might not. It also covers you on a minor flaw you overlook which we all do from time to time. You will have alot more customers if you grade your cards hard than if you are right on or soft.

90%+ of my PSA 10s were purchased raw as singles, or
pulled from packs. BUT, I would never put a grade
on a raw card if I was selling it on EBAY.

The VERY few times I have sold raw cards (pulled from packs)
on EBAY, I said they were "pack fresh," and let the scans
    speak to condition.

I call postcards "about excellent" or "about near mint."

I absoultely agree. The highest grade a raw card should get is NRMT/MT, and I only call virtually flawless looking ones that high personally. Mint and Gem Mint is ONLY for graded cards. I don't care how perfect you THINK a raw card is, there's always a chance you'll overlook something that takes it down to an 8 or less.
