We are listening

Happy New Year to you all.
Some of you might complain that the people who make decisions for the PCGS Set Registry (which consists of both PCGS employees and CUI employees) are not listening to the participants of the Registry. But I can tell you that that is simply not the case. We view the Registry as one of the most important elements of the PCGS website. Some could argue that in just one year, it has revitalized the concept of set building and it has certainly created a community of collectors like none we have ever seen.
As many of you know, on January 3rd, Rick Montgomery, President of PCGS, posted his opinion on the leasing issue. Also, although virtually unnoticed, was a post I made on the same subject on January 1st in a thread called "ownership of coins." On the same day I also clarified the ownership issue in the PCGS Set Registry "Rules." And to repeat what I said in my 1/1 post, if anyone is not clear about about the verbage, please email me at bj@collectors.com with your questions and/or suggestions and how we can make the ownership issue crystal clear.
One of the issues that has also come to light in recent weeks is the weighting issue and the addition of coins to sets as we weight them. A complaint has been that arbitrarily adding the new coins without giving sufficient notice to the set holders may be unfair. Although the rules clearly state that set changes may occur, I do agree completely that advance notice should be given. Therefore, later today we are establishing a link on the Registry home page called "Registry News." We will begin posting upcoming changes at least 72 hours before they are implemented. We will also provide a link for your feedback that will be sent to David Hall who is spearheading weighting and set changes. I urge you to send David your comments about any upcoming changes, because like the rest of us, he listening, too.
The Set Registry council has some merit. This forum is so active that it is nearly impossible for us to keep track of what the concensus is on many subjects. Whether you go with a committee approach, or go as Rick has suggested with one registry czar, concise feedback is what we are lacking and is what we really need from participants in the Registry. We get email from one person telling us that the addition of an overdate in the quarters is stupid. We get email from another person telling us that the overdate is a welcome addition. But what is the concensus? Your organized effort at providing us this kind of information would be invaluable. I hope that the movement continues.
As always, should you have any questions, concerns, feedback, etc. please feel free to email me at bj@collectors.com. Thank you for your support of the PCGS Set Registry!

Most of us know that PCGS is listening and that we all share common concerns. I know I appreciate all your time and effort. You have always responded in a timely and professional manner to all of my questions and concerns. Thanks for the wonderful job you are doing.
Regards, Dennis
It is very difficult to be all things to all people. Sometimes a vocal view is often overstated and having a balance is a good thing. I hope that it can be decided soon as the the voice we have from the board, in order for cohesive recommendations to be made that accurately reflect the general concensus of opinion.
Looking at the first "news bulletin," that is exactly the kind of things we would like to see communicated. Keeping that updated will be a real benefit for all.
Keith
Thanks!

I am sure we are all interested in when our favorite sets will be weighted. The mercury set has been gaining steam the last couple of weeks, as I am sure most sets are and I was just curious as to where on the list this set is.

I think that folks are frustrated because they feel their voices are not being heard. Communication coming from PCGS back to the forum should really help to stem some of that.
Thanks for all you're doing! I hope everyone at PCGS understands that people are here in this fourm debating because we also want the Registry to be the best it can be!
My registry experience has been nothing but positive,
Thanks,

When is the RD, RB, BR and CAM, DCAM planned to take effect?

I appreciate your need for distilled consensus feedback from us.
If the Council/czar idea doesn't fly, let me propose that you use the Polling capacity on the Board here. If you post a Poll question for a particular idea, notion or change, you can get not only the numbers of those in favor/against, but also focused debate and feedback from all those interested. It also avoids the stormy politics of some of us trying to formulate a consensus, and communicating it accurately to you folks.
What do you think?
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I like the idea of a registry "czar" with a council support.
I also like dpoole's idea of the poll.
thanks,
Matt

dpoole made a great suggestion about using the polling feature to get feeback from all.

See? There was no need for the ruckous and outrage. Calm, whispering voices are heard much easier than the loud, bousterious ones.
Greg? Dog97? Mysteriously silent. Any further complaints, or may we move on now to building a better Registry?

The Registry news page is up online now. I'll extend the updates for at least five business days before we implement changes to the registry. This will allow everyone ample time to send in their feedback.
The news page does indeed layout specific weighting information and composition changes and is not just a "flash in the pan."
David Hall will be issuing a survey by email in the next week or so to poll everyone about weighting issues, composition changes, and other matters of concern. Your feedback will be very much appreciated.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend, and thanks again to all of your for your support.
