Chinese? No? About the size of a silver dollar...

Yet harshly cleaned.
Picked it up for a bit over silver off a bid board.
Any good?

This one is KM#5 (lion's left foreleg raised), 1 Birr, 28.075g .8350 silver (ASW .7537 oz.)
20,000 minted with EE date 1887A (1894), 200 with EE date 1888A (1896), and 418,000 with EE date 1889A (1897).
Values from $85-100 XF and $250-325 Unc in the 2001 3rd Ed. 19th Century Krause are probably on the low side.
Super buy!

I agree. It's a fake. The portrait is wrong -- look at the beard details compared to the real one twokopeiki posted, and the overall lack of sharpness.
BTW, the inscription says 1/8 birr, which should be between a dime and a quarter in size. If it's bigger, it's definitely a fake.
