Anyone remember Dog Tags?

These are pretty cool. They were made by Chris Martin, ex NFL player for the Chiefs. I bought this Cowboys team set at a card shop in Tennessee. They come in a plastic rack type display and are impossible to get without fine surface scratches due to them moving around in the pack. They also came with a chain so you could wear them on your neck and get them auto'd by the player if you ever had the chance. There is a place for auto's on the back of each card that looks just like a credit card sig line.

There are only six graded at all, including my 3 so they might be kinda on the rare side.

  • Very nice Matt!

    I really like odd-ball (non-main stream) issues.

image I'm surprised to see no-one else remembers these. They must be rarer than I thought

I've never seen them but will say : insert witty comment about the resemblance of Dallas and dogs here :

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    I'll bite.

You mean there are Dallas players who sign their name with more than an "X" or their inmate ID number?

I hear Tony Romo has a nice looking auto...when he can hold on to the pen! image

    Nice cards by the way.

I don't remember those, but I recently opened a case of 1991 Fleer Stars n Stripes. These were the cards that came with candy canes. I think they made them in 1991 and 1990. The oddball issues during the card boom are a lot of fun because they're hard to find, but cost almost nothing when you find them.

Wow I had forgotten all about Stars-n-Stripes! I bought a bunch of those the year they came out. As for the Dog tags I have never seen them before but they are nice looking cards (or whatever they are). Thanks for sharing the oddball football issues.

I remember Dog Tags, they were a cool oddball piece. I think Chris Martin Enterprises also made the Pro Mag (?) magnets too. I used to collect Emmitt and really enjoyed finding new oddball items or releases... and, as someone already mentioned, they usually were cheap to pick up once you found them. I actually miss the late 90s when card companies were branching out with new offerings to try to differentiate themselves amongst the pack (no pun intended). Donruss Preferred Tins, Playoff Chipshots, Pinnacle Cans and Coins... these things were great for player collectors looking to add some flavor to their card collections.
