Patriots are impressed with Randy Moss - so far

They like his attitude and work ethic. Lets hope it holds up during full fledged training camp and the season itself.

Moss says the Patriots are "a new beginning" for him. He is not with the disfunctional Raiders anymore and knows that
that Pats are not going to put up with any nonsense. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I hope he continues to impress, the upside for us with him on our team is through the roof, and for what it cost us? I hope he can deal with the ball being spread around and stay focused, and out of trouble..

I think the same was said about TO his first year in Philly.

Just wait. It will blow up eventually.

I think Moss may have grown up some. I think he'll be sort of like Bryan Cox or Corey Dillon was, thankful to be on a good team, thankful for not being expected to carry the team, and thankful to rediscover the joy of playing ball. Might be a little optomisitic (and I am a pessimist), but I really think he'll be fine. I also think it forces Stallworth to be fine too (and probably KW and last year's #1 (drawing a blank) draft pick too).

  • I think by next January there will be 25 other teams asking themselves, "Why the heck didn't we go after this guy?" Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers will be at the head of that list.

I think by next January he will be looking for another sucker to sign him.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me again and again, shame on the teams that keep signing these malcontents thinking these players are going to magically become reborn - it won't happen. Big mistake by the Patriots. I only wish the Cowboys would have signed him to go along with TO.

Honestly we really dont have anything to lose here, a 4th round pick is all. Look at the majority of Patriots 4th rounders under the Bellichek regime, they are mostly cut.

I understand Moss's downside no doubt but for what we gave up for him, the upside is worth it. We will see I quess..

If he plays to his ability and Belichick can keep him out of the papers I think he can be an asset. If anyone can do it Belichick can.
But I don't think any of these guys (i.e. T.O.) will change.
Both are great receivers, but a cancer to a team.

Moss will be a force on this team, IMO, as long as they involve him in the game plan and are winning. By his own admission, he amps up when the stakes are high, and Lord knows he had little to get excited about playing in Oakland the last couple of seasons. The other problem he's had is injuries, so the Pats did well to get him for little in return.

Favre and the Packers need far more help than Moss can even begin to provide. Their receiving corps is quite good, acvtually, with Driver and Jennings as the starters. Their problem is tackling the other team when they have the ball.

  • Was hoping the Raiders would get more for him. He is an unbelievable talent, but just didn't fit in Oakland. Can't blame him for being frustrated while he was there just didn't have the talent around him. The only thing that I hate is why do you have to give your best effort only if your team is winning? But I guess that is the way it is.

I pretty much hate the Patriots with a passion but I think having Moss on their team is going to make them almost unstoppable. Just his presence on the field is going to change the way defenses have played the Patriots thusfar. He's going to pull a safety with him when he goes down the field and expose the middle for Tom Brady. He's going to pull Linebackers and expose the the field for the Pats running game. It kills me to say this but I think the Pats might win it all. I really wish the Steelers coulda snagged him.

Maybe it's the jaded Raider fan in me, but I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. The primary reason that I say this is that Moss just doesn't seem motivated by winning. I honestly believe he could care less about winning a Super Bowl. I'm sure he'd rather win one than not but I don't get the sense that it's all that important to him.

perkdog, your comment assumes that the downside is that he does not contibute on the field and that's that. But he has a history of being a cancer in the locker room and on the field. Not necessarily so much a jerk to other players like a TO, but he clearly does not motivate them and sets a tone that not playing hard is okay. I realize you think that the Pats are just going to get rid of him if that happens but it's a cancer that he's been there at all if that behavior rears it's ugly. >>

I think Moss "quite playing" in Oakland because it was frustrating to him that the ball would be thrown in a hurry to his feet all the time while his QB was running for his life, he knew it was a no win situation. Screw him for quitting but there was the reason for not being motivated IMO.

As far as Moss being a "Cancer" to the Patriots I dont see this at all. The Pats are a solid group who are tight and embrace newcomers to the team but will not tolerate a guy ( Randy Moss or not ) not putting the team first, Bellichek has no problems weeding these guys out. Doug Gabriel for instance, he pi$$ed Bellichek off with his work ethic and then benched him for several games and then dumped him, the same will happen with Moss if he acts up.

I doubt he will last the season. This is the year that I expect the Pats to self destruct.

I'm leaning more towards the side of the Pats core keeping him in check and him being happy to play for a contender. I see it as a good outcome for all involved.
