Check for EBAY auction, proceed with caution

I sold a $20 gold eagle on EBAY and received the check today. I was told it was a bank check It is somewhat greenish, has a watermark that looks like chain link fence in the light and has no bank name on it. It says Online Bill Payment Processing Center 800-243-2508 and below that UMB, Bank Warsaw. It looks rather official but suspect all at once. Any thoughts?

The buyer has emailed me twice to give me updates and to him sending the check. He has never pressured or metioned shipping the coin upon reciept. When I called the number on the check it said service center closed, did not mention a bank name. I will try again in the morning.

Would you wait a couple days on the check that is supposed to be a bank check? I will obviously get more when I call the bank tomorrow but was curious for some input. I am very rare;y suspect on payments bt this caught my eye.

id wait until the check clears and you have cash in hand before the coin goes out. ebay buyers should expect you to cover your AZZ could have paid you with a certified bank check or a postal money order. dont be in such a hurry to get the coin in the mail. make sure the check is no doubt good

Got to love abank with a PO BOx....... I will let the buyer know nicely he can wait a week.

I'd definitely wait. I might even talk to my bank's manager to see what he knows, or could find out, about that bank.
Is it one of the newer internet banks? Is it even an accredited "bank"?

Actually, a lot of the banks have POBoxes.
Here is one list that shows a lot of banks and their routing numbers...many have PO Boxes.

All depends on type of bank.

Hopefully, and most likely, legit, but I would still proceed with caution.

And don't just wait until it clears... give it at least an extra week if not two.

It is probably a lot like the checks generated by B of A when I use online bill pay. Just wait til check clears and don't worry about it.

Yup, I'd follow the above advice. I would be curious and would ask my bank manager to tell me everything she knew about the check. Most importantly I'd wait until the funds were clear before sending the coin.

Based on the feedback for the buyer you are safe, the only thing I would be concerned with is a possible ebay account hijack.....
