In what world was Chris Gomez a "Diamond Dynamo"?
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
OK, let me do a run-down:

    - The two BK Steve Carlton's are stone cold 9's in my eyes. This is the third time they've come back 8's and I really don't get it. Hold them next to a regular 1979 Topps PSA 9 and they fit right in. PSA has a thing about BK cards I guess.

    - 1991 OPC all came from 3 hand-collated sets I bought from Beckett dealers for $11 each. These were the only stars I felt had a shot at PSA 10. All 3 10's are 1 of 1's so I can't complain. I also had two PSA 9 Chipper's from these sets on a different sub. Pretty good guy for $40 dlvd. The Puckett should bring good money.

    - 1992 OPC all came from 4 or 5 case-fresh boxes I busted. The Bo and Eck are 1 of 1. Looks like I have a pretty good eye for these.

    - 1994 OPC came from a box I busted when I first got into OPC. Not sure why I graded the Gomez.

    - I keep trying to sneak the 1966 Checklist in because it's an easy 9. this is the 2nd time it's come back "MIN SIZE REQ"

    - 1977 Topps basketball came from a bunch of packs I busted from two boxes I bought from BBCE. Snow was a big problem with these, and I was hoping for a few 10's, but looking back they got what they deserved. Parish 9 is nice.

    - 1979 Topps basketball came from a set I bought for $50. I really thought the English and commons were potential 10's and the Kareem was a 9. Might have to crack and resub some.

    - 1992 Hoops came from a box break I did for fun. Obviously I thought they were all 10s. Anybody looking for a PSA 10 Patrick Ewing playing basketball in space against a giant robot octopus? The Shaq 10 is nice.

    - 1975 Topps football came from the last rack I broke from the box I bought from BBCE. What pisses me off is that I had 50 or so cards on an old sub from the same box of racks which none came back PSA 10. If I got this grader on that sub, I would've had at least 8 PSA 10's. Oh well. Dobler and Lanier have decent followings as semistars so I might be able to get some good money for them.

    - 1978 Topps football came from a hand-collated set I bought for $125, and a few came from some less than stellar packs I bought from BBCE. Looks like I missed some wrinkles on the Selmon and Blount. Who the hell is Emanuel Zanders?

    - The 1990 Tiffany football came from 2 really nice factory sets I bought for $50 each. Only the Singletary, Gault and Matthews are 1 of 1's. I REALLY wanted a 10 on the Montana, which would easily be a $100 card. I'll probably give it another shot. Overall, I like my results with these, although I'm not sure how well I'll do with them on ebay.

    - I was hoping for at least one PSA 10 of each card in the 91 Pacific Protos. These are the first PSA 10's of any of these cards! Obviously the Montana would've been great, but I can't complain with an Akman, Sanders and Bo. Just for reference, a PSA 8 Bo sold for $26 once. I should do well with these. Bought 3 Prototype sets at $20 each.

    - The 1973 hockey came from a set I bought. I thought they all could be 9's.

ajw, Diamond Dynamos were all prospects that year, which is wierd because they also had a HOT PROSPECTS set. I guess Dynamos were Prospects who were good fielders? To reiterate, not sure why I graded the Gomez.

What Lee? No cards of the all time rushing king?

A submission just isnt a submission without at least one card of the greatest, now is it?

I guess I was so happy with the Lanier and Dobler getting 10's that I didn't think to check, but they are both 1 of 1's. That makes me happy in the pants.

And if the sight of Patrick Ewing playing basketball in outerspace against a robot octopus doesn't do it for you, I just don't know what to tell you.
