Jester's son birth coin Part III- Your candidates for purchase!

We have roughly $450 to spend on coins as a gift for for Jester's new son. I am asking members to PM me their choice of coin or coins. PLEASE only one or two coins that add up to no more than $450 and remember, we will have to pay for shipping and such. Please, only one entry per member. If possible, please include a link to the coin(s) where they can be bought. Be as specific as possible, just don't say 'a gold coin'. All choices must be received by me by date 6/11/07. Once I receive them, I'll set up a poll and have all members vote, the winning choice will be bought and sent to Jester for his son. In the event of a tie, a new poll will be set up with the tied coins until we get one winner. Remember, the winner may be 2 coins that add up to $450.

All suggestions must be made via PM as well as in this thread. Any questions please PM me or ajaan.

Example from second republic: "As I mentioned in the thread a few days ago, I like the "Enigma" gold coin that would be around $300."

Contributions from forum members as in threads one and two, this being the third thread where we are trying to come to grips with an appropriate choice for a birth coin, having finally, I think, reached a stable contribution amount.image

    Laurent,

I said i would contribute in the original post, but didn't see where to send the money? are you taking it via Paypal where i can simply shoot it over? thanks!

I will be probably taking everything via Paypal, if possible and notifying everyone by PM shortly where to send your pledge. It won't hurt to add an extra $.25, $.50 or $.75 to your contribution to cover the cost of receiving the money through Paypal. Any extra will go to the fund...

Anyone who has not made a contribution pledge so far and still wishes to, simply PM me the amount of the pledge and I will be contacting everyone shortly to let them know when and where to send. If you don't have Paypal, fold your dollars or check or money order into a piece of white copy paper and into an envelope and forward to me- just PM me for the address.

  • PayPal charges the initiator of the transaction the charge, so unless you actually bill each member through PayPal, and they respond to the payment request, they will incur charges seperate from the amount they send when they initiate payment without a pending request.
  • Aha - I was on holidays when those threads were created and I haven't had enough time to scroll all the threads yet.

Jester eh, I'd better send him something special. image

    From Doogy:

my suggestion would be the following for the little tike:

NEN has a beautiful LVI 1897 UK Crown on their website right now. It is listed at $450, but being a good forum member, i bet he'd cut us a deal. The British crowns are large and beautiful, as i'm sure you're aware, and i'll bet the value on these continue to appreciate as more and more people enter the darkside collecting market (probably due to US coins getting out of reach for many collectors).

    Here's a nice suggestion

    This suggestion comes from BS.

Come on group, what do you think?

I've got to tell you, I'm liking this one.

I've been terribly busy lately and I don't think I've said it yet... Conratulations to Jester and the newly enlarged family!!! image

Now, my suggestion, if feasible for the money, would be a 2007 and a 1907 sovereign or half sov set. Gotta get the birth year in there somehow, and what else offers a better design and allows for pre-centennial pieces? image

Thanks spoon.... I'm going to be posting a poll on the 11th that contains specific suggestions from all relevant threads. Please everyone, make a suggestion now! Actually spend a few minutes with Krause and the internet to post a coin that we might consider that is actually available now!

Sorry, we had a thunderstorm the other night that has resulted in a lot of necessary pool cleaning this morning and I'm not pleased at having broken the plastic bits that connect the hose to the triangular vacuum head.

    I know, a tough job but...image

Here's one, but I'd first ask Civitas and/or danglen for something similar.

Wow, once again, thank you all profusely for your generosity and congratulations. It means a lot to me and my family! imageimageimage

And I do love that shilling; I've already got a James I shilling, so it would fit right in not only to Baby Jester's collection, but also because the Stuarts are my ancestors.

    Dimitri's selection is also awesome.

Jester Junior update: he's very healthy and beautiful as can be, and takes a lot after his daddy, and his mommy is simply a fantastic and very loving mother.

Well, I attended a family reunion this weekend and my 58 year-old body was asked to participate in a game of touch football. Being an idiot, I acquiesced and hyper-extended my knee and did a little hip damage.

I barely made it downstairs to answer a PM from Ajaan this morning and I thought I might apologize to the forum for the apparent inattention to this thread. Trust me, it was on my mind all weekend.

This is the last day for suggestions before a poll tomorrow, based on the few suggestions I've gotten. Please pm me with any last minute ideas.

If for any reason this does not work out, I would like Jester to select a coin he thinks is appropriate for his son and then I will PM him payment once I collect from all pledgers. There have not been as many concrete suggestions as I thought there might be and I hesitate to encourage my preferences as I thought this would be a forum decision, not just that of one or two members, despite many, many pledges and private congratulations for the effort, all because my man Jester is the man and a cherished contributor. Jester, you have no idea how many coins I discovered because of your past educational posts!

As for the coin, I had thought a sovereign would be a great coin given their wide acceptance...but that was before I saw the final total collected!
