1948 Leaf Football question

I have about 10-20 Leaf football cards, and I notice that two of them are different sizes than the others--one is about 1/8 inch wider, and the other is about 1/8 inch shorter. Has anyone encountered size differences in these cards? I'm thinking I will have trouble getting these oddball-sizes graded. The shorter one doesn't appear to be trimmed, at least to my eyes. Has anyone encountered this issue? Thanks.

That's 48 Leaf football for you. As long as it isn't too wide to fit in the holder you shouldn't have a problem.
  • Thanks. How about the card that is too short? Will they likely reject it as trimmed? I mean, I guess that's how you can tell a trimmed card--it is smaller.

Eh. Doesn't mean anything really. If it's questionable, they'll likely reject it to be on the safe side. There are many that are undersized and oversized in that set though. I believe fabfrank just finished his 48 Leaf set and has a post on this forum in the last week or so. I'm sure you can find the thread. I would hit him up via pm and see if he has any advice for you.
  • Just saw this thread. Card size does vary on this issue, but usually not by an 1/8th of an inch. I would assume a card that short would be trimmed. Even if it isn't trimmed though, PSA probably would not slab it because it doesn't meet minimum size requirements.
I would grade all the cards regardless. Wait for a $5 special if they are commons or utilize the current $13 special.let us know the results and what's for saleimage

  • Thanks for the advice. I will probably watch for a cheaper special on older cards and give it a try. Also, I'll measure it more closely to see if it really is 1/8 inch shorter. It's a beautiful card (of Steve Van Buren). I'll be really annoyed if it is trimmed, although I've had it for a year or more and doubt I even know who I bought it from so I can't get my money back.
  • Truth be told, the current special is about as good as it gets for 1948 Leaf cards. Rarely do you see a $5 special for cards going back that far. Plus if you are talking VanBuren, that is his RC and the value will probably be higher than what the special allows. (Usually $5 specials cap out with the value of the card being $75)

  • Okay. I'm fairly new to PSA, so I didn't realize that was a good price for older cards. Maybe I'll send it this month. Thanks.
