Is this 1889-O Morgan dollar an Oval O Top 100 Vam? The Vamview Wiki doesn't have pictures of either variety of oval O.

yep, looks that way to me. Not the slender tall variety.

The shape of the mintmark is still round, so that's the round O. Also, on 1889-O Oval O's the date is a far date, and the date here is a normal date. The same mintmark was
used on 1888-O Oval O's. Photos here.

From this picture, it looks like the mintmarks match.

I understand the confusion, I went through this same thing myself a few years back. Forget the inside of the mintmark, look at the shape (of the outside of the mintmark).

Thanks for your help, Wolf. I found a couple of my 1888 oval O's, and I can see the difference.
