I want to talk seriously about Clemens' groin.

Not that seriously.
Mike & Mike were talking this morning about the possibility of the Yankees releasing Clemens if his injury is worse than expected. Since he has only been in the minors, his major league contract has not yet kicked in, so the Yankees are not obligated to pay the $18+ million. Not to start a riot, but the Yankees aren't going to make the playoffs, with or without him. So here are the possible scenarios I see
1. Steinbrenner and his infinite supply of money pay him anyways - It gives Roger the chance to end his career with some semblance of diginity, but he's not getting anymore rings (unless of course he comes back next year)
2. Clemens gets released, the Yanks save the $ for next year, and Clemens is forced into retirement or the possibility of crawling back to Houston or Boston where I'm sure he'll be absolutely loved. In a way it would be similar to what Clemens did to NY when he retired and then went to Houston. Clemens f'ed the Yanks and in turn gets f'ed back. Chances are that Boston and Houston will tell him to take a hike. Boston doesn't appear to need him and I don't think he could help Houston make the playoffs. Not sure if any other teams would be interested. So it provides the chance that he doesn't play for anyone this year, and if he doesn't try to play next year, it puts a rather sad ending to a superb career.
While I think ultimately the Yanks pay him and let him finish out the year, the second scenario would be a more interesting drama to watch play out.

He does have a 10-year personal service contract with us when he decides to retire.
I would welcome him back but it wouldn't be that warm of a welcome...
<< <i>Clemens is scheduled to pitch today against PIT. >>
Sure. Dodge the Red Sox and White Sox, and suddenly get well against the crappy Bucs.
Personally, I thought the Yankees win over Boston on Sunday night signaled the "return" of the Yankees, as they won the game in traditional Yankee fashion. They've been hot since then, unfortunately.
