Holy Cow Steady Eddie ! Are those your cards and your picture ? Thrown away ? Yes , I can imagine it though . I can also imagine being the one to find it . Back then it probably was no big deal though . People throw away the craziest things sometimes . Thanks for sharing that
When these photos came out in an old Lelands auction a few years ago, I PhotoShopped a little color into the pictures to liven them up and cleaned up all the scratches and creases. I have a big 16x20 print on my wall at work.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I wonder why the B&W version says F.W. Woolworth & Co., and the Color verion, which is clearly the same picture shows a different Company, but still both on Fordham Road in the Bronx.

Looking to have some custom cuts or plain custom cards built? PM me.
Wow, how long did it take you to add that color? It had to be days all together with that level of detail. Clearly time well spent for you though in an obvious labor of love... and it shows. Great job!
The coloring was the easy part, that took about an hour. The hardest part was recognizing what cards were on the uncut sheets to get the correct colors.
<< <i>I don't know, I think it would be cool to see a photo from some store in 1975 showing boxes of cards. It's all about nostalgia. I was born that year. >>
Yeah 1991 cards would be awesome to see in a display too. I bet those are hard to find outside of hidden treasures boxes.
<< <i>Wow, I could never have imagined a photo like this existed. Now let's see a 1975 Topps display from 1975 >>
Why? You can still buy cases or at least quite a few boxes (esp. if you like the minis) of that year and make your own display. >>
Sure, just wire me about $25K and I'll get right on it. That is, if BBCE ever sells a standard 1975 Topps case (I don't like minis). >>
Well they do have a lot of minis, just set them up and stand back farther. The point is that, nowadays, it is still doable for quite a number of collectors. $25k might buy you the tables and the two cut sheets from the 1952 display. Many magnitudes greater than 1975 and that's why it's still magical to see and dream about.
I don't care if 1975's are "much more doable" it's the set I've dreamed of owning ever since I started collecting cards and I'd love to see a pic of whatever 1975 Topps displays looked like back then. However, when I first started, the set booked for $750-$900, so I thought at that time I wouldn't have a chance of ever owning it. But now it typically goes for around $450ish on Ebay (in NRMT/MT raw grade) so while that's still a good chunk of change for us (and in fact the only chance we have of being able to afford something like that is for Christmastime), at least it IS within reach. Good thing the 1974 set is only around $300-$325 even though it's a year older.

Except by 1975, packs and cellos were ubiquitous in all of chain stores. I should know because I probably bought more packs that year than any other year during my childhood. Unlike the older days, one could find these packs and cellos in the candy stand of every single 7-11 (and there were lots of them by that time), grocery store chains as well as drug store chains. The packs and cellos would be right next to the bubble gum and Hershey bars so kids after school could grab a few on the way home. I imagine there were still some mom and pop grocers around but not where I lived. Just a bunch of 7-11, Circle K and Kroger stores. Took all the nostalgia out of buying cards when compared to the displays in the old days at old fashioned drug stores, grocers and department stores. I think this lasted into the 90s when the inserts madness started and stores started putting boxes on shelves in their own section. 1975 wasn't that long ago and buying cards back then was just like buying cards in 1990.

<< <i>How cool would it be to have a time machine? >>
It would be great but surely not near enough room in it to take all the boxes back!

If Back to the Future taught us anything, just bring back that Ole sports trivia book, but dont let OLD Biff get his hands on it.....
Thanks!
