T206 Plank undervalued?

Hi, everyone

We all know the T206 Wagner is the king of baseball cards. However, the T206 Plank is starting to make some noise. A couple of months ago in April, an SGC 10 sold for $16k, a PSA 1 for $21k, and an SGC 30 for $35k. All three of these prices are record highs! Since the Wagner card gets all the attention, are we finally seeing the Plank card narrowing the HUGE gap?

If you think this card is underated. Then what do you think of the Ty Cobb Back. There are way less than any wagner!
  • As for the Cobb back, there's no doubt that's a scarce one. However, it's got too many things "against" it:

    1) The variation is on the BACK of the card. (not too many people collect cards due to its back)
    2) There are already FOUR poses of Cobb in the set. (only 1 for Plank and 1 Wagner)
    3) It doesn't have a "neat" story behind its scarcity (anti-smoking, broken plate, etc)

By the way, does anyone have a (low-grade) T206 Plank for sale?

Plank is where it should be.

I thought Plank was always a "holy grail" sort of card in its own right. Maybe not on the same level as the Wagner, but still...

It has room to go up as well as the magie error. Lots of people collecting this set, when the easy to get cards are out of the way cards like ohara and demmit could also get more action than now as people save up to inch closer to trying to complete a non wagner set.

  • Sales update:

Sotheby's today just sold a PSA 6 (mc) T206 Plank for a cool $95k (including buyer's premium). Another record high for Eddie! For those of us who can't afford or don't have the $ for a Wagner, maybe owning #2 of "The Big 3" is a consolation :-)

Does anyone know who owns the only PSA 8?

Not bad for a so-called "undervalued" PSA 6 (and with a qualifier at that!). Way to go Eddie!image

Though personally I'd rather have a NRMT 1952 Topps set for that $90K.

  • TY COBB BAck is not a T206 regardless of what some people designate it. Also where are the nm 1952 topps sets at for $90000. Plank is not undervalued in my opinion ( obviously it is undervalued in the price guides but price guides are meaningless)
