"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
Would the Yanks please trade this assback already, and get a REAL ballplayer-- you know, a stud like Scott Brosius or someone similar- to man the hot corner?
No question he's been "clutch" thus far this season. Before we coronate him as Mr. October, though, let's see him hit his weight in a postseason series, assuming the Yankees can right the ship and get there. After all, Arod always put up monster numbers when his team was out of contention.

<< <i> There goes that choker A-Rod again, hitting home runs when the team doesn't need them.

Who cares if he's any good in October? The pertinent facts surrounding A-Rod's stay in New York are:
a) He agreed to go to 3rd base.
b) The Yankees are almost assuredly not in the post-season in 2005 without him, and maybe not in the post season last year without him
c) He's responsible for about 8% of the Yankees total payroll.
Even if he refuses to play in October on religious grounds he'd still be a steal at $15 mill a year or whatever the Yanks are on the hook for, which means he's not the reason why they can't win the World Series. There's no doubt that he could be better-- much better-- in the playoffs, but even when he tanks it he's still a bargain. In any case, any team that pays Carl Pavano 10 million annually doesn't need to be grousing about the playoff stats of Alex Rodriguez, who's only making 1/3 more than Captain DL himself.
Agreed, though Arod himself would most certainly be offended if you mentioned him in the same sentence as Carl Pavano.

Steve
Really though, he had some outstanding post season series when he was with Seattle...one of them being against NY. With the Yanks he had one excellent series, one better than average, and two bad. Typical randomness for such a small amount of games.
Grote, I'm not sure how you can say that Arod always put up monster numbers when his teams were out of contention.
Aside from his three years with Texas, I believe his teams were always in contention...and he put the numbers up in those seasons as well. He put up slightly better numbers with Texas, but that has more to do with the ballpark than anything else.
I'll ask again, if there were such players that had an ability to drastically improve how good they are because it is A) The post season, and they are in contnetion...then what the heck are they waiting for? They should be showing that ability all the time. The answer is because they only have as much control over their performance as the combination of ability, chance, and randomness allow for.
Given enough time, it all tends to even out towards a players true ability...the ability that is based on the thousands of regular season performances that have given the true barometer.
LOL KC!
thats very very possible.
