According to David Wright himself, 9 out of 10 of his autos from GAI are FAKE!!!

Check out this auction from Locker Room Memorabilia (who have David Wright as their exclusive client). The auction is for a David Wright signed ball but look at the first part of the description and the pictures from 10 David Wright signatures that were on eBay. All were GAI authenticated and David himself had said that atleast 9 of them were fake.

So a company that has an exclusive deal with Wright claims other items signed by him (probably at the ballpark) and authenticated by someone else are not geniune. Wow, no conflict of interest there. Whoop dee damn doo.

How is it not a conflict of interest?? A major authentication company is authenticating fake autographs. We pay tons of money sending to these companies and now a player is coming out saying that 9 out of 10 of them are fake. I know that there have been fakes that have passed through these companies, but when 9 out of 10 of them are fake, then that should be big news to collectors and a caution when sending to them next time.

If that was proven to be untrue, wouldnt they be exposing themselves to some big time slander?

Why would David Wright lie about that? Just look at the autographs yourself, they do look pretty fake.

Those are not David Wright's auctions. Just because THEY say that Wright said that? I have a hard time believing that is true.
Edited to add...can't see if the numbers and the certificates even match. I dont know..its just kind of fishy. I cant imagine those at GAI are that wrong that much of the time.

The auction listing reads like a bit of showmanship to me. They carefully included a disclaimer that basically states that they're not saying the Wright autos are fake but....

Unfortunately, David Wright himself is unavailable for comment.

The auction was care to say that had no idea what GAI was authenticating. Meaning that the item easily might not match the LOA. The were simply stating there was lots of Wright items on Ebay that they didn't think were authentic.

    The story

9 of 10? That is about right.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Comical.

I have a David Wright baseball. He signed it for me at Spring Training three years ago. On the sweet spot. There's no disputing it in my mind since I handed him the ball right outside of the stadium and he signed it.

    PSA wouldn't authenticate it.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

This statement may be true to some extent, but buying authenticated unopened product or autos is certainly better than buying "raw" items where the odds of getting junk are many times greater.
