What I know about this coin in two paragraphs.

I purchased this coin on 8/14/2004 from one of the board members here. He had listed it on eBay and I was the high bidder at $66.26 including shipping and insurance. The PCGS price guide at that time put the value at $75.00 since this was the first year of issuance that price proved to be high. As of the May issue of “Rare Coins Market Report” This coins value is $45.00. The population of the 2004-D in MS67 is 368 which is rather high and is the reason that the value has declined. But with there being only 27 graded higher all at MS68 the price difference is great as they are currently valued at $700.00 and that is showing a decline at the present time.

This date proved to be a rather historic in a modern sort of way for this series of coins. 2004 was the last year that the mint drew mint set coins from general issues. In 2005 they the Mint started what is now called the Satin Finish coins for the mint set issues. So this coin is the last year that we do not know if a coin came from roll stock or mint sets. This has lead to the debate of Business Strike versus Satin Finish that is still going on. But many note that Kennedy half dollars called business coins is kind of a misnomer any way. The mint makes them but almost all are for the collector market. A few if any have been released into circulation for the last ten plus years.

And one last bit on this coin. Price is $45.00 and I will pay the shipping.

No toning the blue is a product of a very brillent coin and indoor lighting.

    LindeDad:

Cool! Giving those two paragraphs about the 2004-D Kennedy Half Dollar made me feel that I was reading David Q. Bowers describing his lots at auction some years ago!

A young aspiring collector will see that he has an opportunity to acquire this coin at a cheaper price than three years ago.

By the way, is that coin developing a pretty bluish toning on the obverse?

LindeDad; you can pm me and I will modify my post.
