    1964 Topps Stand Up

Required Items: 77 Finest Possible Set Rating: 8.99

This is, perhaps, one of the most undervalued sets of the 1960's. The combination of the star power, condition sensitivity and set size, this Topps issue is starting to get noticed. This Topps issue was intended to be handled as each card has a perforated image of the player on the front. Once folded, the image would "pop" from the center in order to create a "Stand Up" figure. Due the design and the fact that colored borders surround each card, finding high-grade examples is awfully tough. The Mickey Mantle card is, by far, the key to a set that also has a run of short printed cards, making completion even more difficult.

There are really no borders on these cards, do they have serious issues with recoloring? I ALWAYS liked that set!
  • Yep, 77 cards and very nice! Loaded with Hall of Famers....very under valued.

I don't remember these cards in '64, but I've grown quite fond of them. Over the years I've heard they were a test set that got released to some, but not all, markets. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but it's a great little set, and for my money, a whole lot nicer than the Giants of the same year.

Centering issues still are present even though they do not have borders. Sometimes you see the perforation out of line with where the green and yellow meet. If you know the set well, you can tell when the card is off centered.
