1961 Topps and 1961 Fleer Football Sets

I have a complete set of 1961 1-221 Fleer Football Cards (SOLD 6/14/07). A friend was a checker at a super market in the 60's and bought these in packs and put them in an album right away and left them there. He only collected Football so this is one of 2 sets 1 full set 1 first run 1-132 Topps. I meant to ask for advice on whether to try this set on Trading forum or just go for it on ebay. Any advice is appreciated. I've been selling a big collection for the last 6 months and have a real appreciation for sports cards which I had forgotten about since I was a kid. Now I have put many hours into really understand the grading the nuances of knowing a clean card from a 4/5 and crease/trim etc. Just took one cynic to kick dirt in my face. These are not for sale here. image

    1. Wrong forum. Post spam in the Buy Sell & Trade Forum.
    2. 9 pocket pages didn't exist when these cards were new.
    3. "album slots are a bit short so there are some with tiny loss of sharp edge" means they're probably 5s at best.
    4. "A friend was a checker at a super market in the 60's and bought these in packs and put them in an album right away and left them there." I've never heard a story like this; gosh how fortunate for him to know to put these in an album and save them for almost 50 years.
    5. I'm the only cynic on this board; everybody else will probably swamp you with offers.image

Neat trick to edit your post and take out the part where you're looking to sell somebody else's cards that were for sure 7s, 8s and 9s and then show pictures of cards that are not for sale. Ain't cyberspace great? How you gonna change your posts now?

Add me to the list of cynics.

Wrong forum and wrong crowd for these....Mark and I are not neophytes. Back up the truck and ship 'em to EBAY.

Well Morrellman isn't a moron and he certainly isn't young. image

Also, of the 18 cards pictured,
the Bart Starr card would get a 7 from PSA at best
and none of the other cards would be worth wasting a grading fee on.

Just my honest, expert opinion. By the way, welcome to the boards ...

    1. Spam is the term for drumming up sales interest in an item on a chat board forum when a more appropriate forum for that exists.
    2. Not so sure about the Starr card; looks like a little thing happening in the lower left corner.
    3. Wading into a chat board calling other members juvenile names is an excellent way to get off on the right foot. Welcome to the boards.

Here is a worthwhile reply for you. This forum is full of expert card collectors...who know cards, condition, history, and values of sports cards. Many have been on ebay for years and have been grading cards/buying them for longer. Two replies have been truthfull....pages to protect card were not available in 1961, so the story itself cannot be true. In my opinion.....99+% of all ungraded cards on ebay are overgraded to "yield" more money. Many come with a 'song and dance' to justify the condition of the cards for sale. We have all been there done that. advice: your cards all seem off center. This makes them in my opinion ungradable as you will get a negative qualifier. This drops the grade value 2 grades....say from a 8 to a 6. The value drops even more. Look at the corners with a 10X magnifier...if 2 or more corners are not sharp...again the cards are most likely ungradable. Get a sportscard book such a tuffstuff or beckett and look at values. Look at the key cards: rc's, hof'ers, and first and last cards. It might be better to pull them and sell the other "commons" as one lot. I would take the cards to a local sportscard shop and offer to buy his time for advice on individual cards if they are not for sale to him.

Nice salesmanship. While you are at it, why dont you just advertise them as PSA 10's?
I think you have missed your calling as a public relations man. Your short welcome here
is noted by any buyers with any sense on this board. Good luck on e-bay with your
    mid grade cards.
BTW, what does being a checker have to do with collecting cards?

Where do these people come from?

If you are interested I have 9 slot binder pages from the 60's along with a cell phone from
1961. Oh yea, that land in Florida is still available too.

Wow whats with the name calling. Get a little pissed because someone caught you at your game. If you want to be welcomed on this board you had better come with honesty. I for one will not welcome someone who comes name calling. What was your advice to Mark "Get a life and shut up" Sounds like you should take your own advice

  • I was immediately called a liar. I responded in kind rudely. Well get over it. I wasn't playing a game. I don't need the boards to get something over or make a sale. I was just feeling the set out and there you have it. I hadn't worked with footballl cards yet and especially a full set this clean over all. Sure I acted hastily entering the sale on the wrong board. But you guys sure live up to your billing. You can dish it out but well you know the rest. Yater

Yes, we can dish it out. Too bad you can't take it.

"I was immediately called a liar"

I don't see that anywhere in Mark's post..

Jim, He won't cause he knows more about cards and condition than we do.
He's the expert here and doesn't want to be taken by us sharks. Peddle you
sh$t someplace else. If you want graded money for your cards, get them graded
first, before you ask 9 money for a raw card.

    Yater,

You might want to send some of the cards in your picture in for grading..."GEM" grading would be the first place I would suggest. You could bet on getting some high grades from them... Bulk sale on EBAY would be another good way to get rid of these cards...1960"s football in this grade is very common. Welcome to the boards!!!!!!
