Your Prediction on Bonds Rookie Cards...

Okay, first, let's not turn this into a Barry-Bashing post....I'll keep my opinion of him out of here also.

As for his rookie cards, what are your prediction of how high they are going to go, and how fast they will cool down, once he breaks the record.

From what I've seen on eBay, etc the last few months, looks like everyone is holding onto the high end (PSA 10) stuff...

Opinions?

Collecting my sports heroes, Roger Staubach and Kirby Puckett.

If anything I think they have a sharp short term increase in the days leading up to him hitting 756, fueled by non-collectors or casual collectors. Then speculators go nuts the day he hits 756 unless ebay is absolutely flooded with his cards and people realize how overproduced they are.

A week or so later they start to decline to realistic levels until his retirement or HOF talk begins.

I don't see much long term prospect for his cards but then I don't see that for Favre cards either and I have thousands of them. I collect what I like, regardless of future values I guess.

    Just my opinion.

I think there will be a small surge of spending on his cards, people tend to act up and binge buy on things that make headlines. I know a few guys were talking about a 1956 Jackie Robinson psa5 or 6 maybe? selling over $300 on ebay the day that MLB did Jackie Robinson day. I bet ebay will be flooded with his cards when he reaches #756.

I think it is time to sell when he gets to 750, or before the HOF ballot. where is he now?

Within a year i predict his 86 topps traded psa 10 to be traidng in the $80-$90 range and most of the cards will probably settle at around 50% of their peak (the days leading up to 756)

It will be like a when relatively unknown player dies (e.g. Lidle, Hancoock): Short term increase followed by saneness. The ones who will make the money will be those who put RARE! in their auction titles for 1988 Donruss cards: Those sellers are going after the suckers.

I'm still waiting for all of those damn 1987's to take off. Boy what a waste of money that was. Too bad Topps mass produced that set. They are nice cards for that time period. I probably have 2 1,000 count boxes in "pack fresh" condition.

    1987 Topps......Pack Fresh Condition......McGwire, Bonds, Clark, Mitchell and Palmeiro....WORTHLESS

The 1987 Topps Tiffany version is still pretty sought after, isn't it?

The same way they always do. They'll be really hot and go up (at least slightly) in price until right before he breaks the record. Then they'll soften in demand afterwards. Works pretty much like clockwork.

No, but at one time I did want to. If they had a Kentucky Wildcats logo on the list, I'd use it, but I've used this USAF logo since my start here, so I guess it at least makes me easy to find. image
