Should the "owner" of a 1964-D Peace Dollar donate it to the Smithsonian?

This may actually be the smartest thing to do, assuming someone actually does have possession of one.
Just send the coin by US Mail with no return address.
The Smithsonian would probably get to keep it for its collection.
The person in possession of the piece would avoid huge legal fees (and who knows what other problems) that would result from an attempt to keep the coin.

All glory is fleeting.
